Well, it’s really your birthday…I can stop lying to our servers to get us a free desert or in this case a shot of tequila!! Happy birthday to the most fun loving person I have ever met. Each day spent with you is better than the last. I’m so lucky to be your dude. You are simply amazing and loved by SOOO MANY people (including me) it’s kinda crazy. You are AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!!!!! Friday we lost a true legend, my grandpa. Losing my Grandpa Bill has been one of the hardest things our family has gone through. It still doesn’t quite feel real, and the world honestly feels a little smaller without him in it.

Grandpa was the kind of person who filled a room without even trying. He had a way of making ordinary moments feel important—whether it was sitting quietly together, telling barber stories, or just sharing a laugh. Some of my favorite memories are the simple ones: slow mornings with coffee in the air, the smell of his aftershave, and time spent together watching the woods and fields like there was nowhere else we needed to be… and watching Gunsmoke, of course.

He taught me so many things over the years: how to hunt, how to fish, how to work hard, and how to take pride in the things you do. After finishing a project, he would say, “Is that about how you’d do it?” But he also taught me things he probably didn’t even realize—like how important family is and how much the little moments matter.

Grandpa also had his funny side. He could make you laugh when you least expected it, and he had that classic grandpa way of acting tough while secretly being one of the most caring people you’d ever meet. He was practically Forrest Gump with all of the things he accomplished in life. To me, he was a celebrity and let’s be real, he was in the village of Saranac. I mean, he had so many names: Bill the Barber, Disco Bill, Buffalo Bill, Slick Willy, and my favorite—Pal. He was the kind of man you could always count on, the kind people respected, and the kind of grandpa every kid hopes they get.

I feel incredibly lucky to have had him in my life, and even luckier to call him my grandpa. The lessons he gave us, the memories we shared, and the love he built in our family will live on long after he’s gone.

He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts, but also a lifetime of stories, laughs, and traditions that will always remind us of him.

Rest easy, Grandpa. I will live the rest of my life thinking, I hope that’s how Grandpa would have done it. taken in Saranac, Michigan by @thaddyus_
