Torn Working through โ€˜opposite scores,โ€™ โ€˜Tornโ€™ centres acts of โ€˜attempting to arrive at the opposite (but failing)โ€™ and โ€˜sitting at a perpetual climax but never climaxing.โ€™ These opposite scores test the relational capacities of the individual body and the group โ€“ when is rejection possible? When is it confusion? What does curious integration look or sound like? What would embrace of an opposite even be? In working through this set of questions, the acts performed generate circumstances of binary exorcism, foregrounding (and sometimes backgrounding) the threshold mirages through which personal bias, hierarchies of perception, and critiques of categorisation are unveiled.ย  Torn channels curiosity over fear and enfolding over avoidance. It attempts to find solace in the places of discomfort. It is a methodological proposition for healing.ย  To find comfort in discomfort is to find freedom. ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก Who tells the truth? Who is my ally? In a time of political violence driven by polarised narratives, 'this is the truth' is an autotheoretical and anti-sanity choreography that holds opposing truths without resolving them. What began as the simple directive to "do the opposite of whatever you perceive" evolved into a layered investigation into the hierarchy of perception, personal bias and the instability of interpretation. Rather than seeking resolution, it creates conditions in which multiple realities can coexist and provides a gateway for connecting through disconnection. What allows us to be imaginative enough to inhabit another person's perspective, even in solitude? Cast through an open call and created over a six-week process, 'this is the truth' brought together eleven performers who compete, collaborate and unravel in their attempts to convince the audience that their truth is the real truth. As alliances shift and certainties fracture, they voice their navigational thoughts and insist upon the validity of their own perceptions, drawing the audience through rage at the dismissal of certain voices as irrational or subjective, grief at the loss of stable meanings, and humour in witnessing the absurdity of the social structures we depend upon unravel before our eyes. Is this the truth? What a ride was this one last month, coming back to the ruin is a tai for antisezona, in Zagreb, one year after it was born.
