If you’ve ever had a soft spot for someone you know you should let go of, Thandi Chi writes music for you.

Thandi (@thandibabybear) is one of r&b’s promising new voices. Earlier this year she released her debut ep a moth to a flame, an 11 minute reflection on love, personal transformation, and the pull toward a connection you know isn’t good for you. Written after a tough breakup and created entirely on her phone, the project feels intimate in its authenticity.

I sat down with Thandi to talk about the making of the ep, the story behind it, and what she learned in the process.
