So yestarday your favourite Food Scientist ans her team hosted a Quality day emsebi. In celebration of World Food Safety day which was on the 7th of June. Angithi phela I am a Food Scientist who is currrently focusing on quality and food safety. It is I and my peers who ensure that the food that you eat is safe for human consumption.

The power of art.

You know one of days where you are like ‘I am feeling abit feverish so let me stay in bed before it turns to coughing fest’, but a loud whisper is like go outside. You try to find reasons why not to go outside, but the voice insists that you need to go somewhere. For me today was one of those days.

This day comes after a series of thoughts of how this is the longest time I haven’t been home in a long time. How much I miss home and the closest thing that has been feeling like home is food. On Monday I had amadumbe(yam) that my mom brought from her hometown eGreytown and she sent some for me. As I was eating them, I realised that amadumbe reminds me of my maternal grandmother and interestingly ubatata(sweet potatoes) remind me of my paternal grandmother. But we move.

So today I visited Stevenson gallery for Zenzile’s exhibition opening. As I walked in the exhibition room I felt the sense of home. The feeling felt like a beautiful morning eMsinga Top, where the scent of grass kissed by the morning dew somewhat politely awaken you. Seeing the wall built from amatshe reminded me of isibaya sasekhaya. The laughter in the room, as if my siblings and cousins basebaleni lasekhaya.

Ohhhh, Jabulile Majola…… the nostalgia in his songs. The comfort that hey, far away from home but you are home my dear. Whom I later chatted to and discovered that he is from Greytown too. The first person I met in Cape Town who is also from Greytown is Jabulile Majola okay!

The whole curation of this exhibition really felt like home. This is the first time in Cape Town for the many years I have been this side, I got to experience home. Exactly the way home is like. That for me just reinforced the awareness of how art is so important to us and how much of a powerful tool it is. This is what I call the joys of living. How much of a treat it is to be Human. Because how is it that I miss home only to be lead to a space that feels like home. Looks like home. And, even smells like home. Making me full as if I had touched down at the Phakathi Headquarters eMsinga Top.

So real, I just had to post about.

So yesterday uZah decided that she is going to look like me, just for one day🤣. My Dad was at her school for Dads and Donut Day, in celebration for father’s day. Kshuthi she was giving my Dads child phela ak’kwazi.
