September 28 Day of Action for Access to Safe and Legal Abortion has its origin in Latin America and the Caribbean where women’s groups have been mobilizing around September 28 the last two decades to demand their governments to decriminalize abortion, to provide access to safe and affordable abortion services and to end stigma and discrimination towards women who choose to have an abortion.
The original name of the campaign in Latin America and the Caribbean is Campaña 28 de Septiembre por la Despenalización del Aborto, which continues up to this day growing in force and commitment on the part of women’s rights activists in the region. The date—September 28—was chosen in commemoration of the abolition of slavery in Brazil, which is now remembered as the day of the “free womb,” demanding safe and legal abortion for all women.

When the in cells go low we stay high on how BLESSED and DIVINE we are 😇
People who love autonomy for themselves and others are obviously Gods favorites 🕊️

Get @reshare_app • @thesweetfeminist “Husband and Father”. A lot of the grossest most misogynistic comments I get are from recently married men/new fathers. My theory is that since they are no longer “allowed” to openly denigrate women due to the new role, they do it online instead.

And an alternate theory: since they now have families (read: people they think they have ownership over), they also believe they should exercise power over every woman and child in existence.

Does this make sense to anyone else? Also: you would not believe how many of these mfers have pumpkin spice stuff in their pics.

🇯🇲 This month we celebrated Jamaican Independence Day, and we’re holding pride and urgency in the same breath.

Last year, this community raised and distributed more than $9,000 to over 60 trans and queer Jamaicans devastated by Hurricane Melissa. A year later, many are still rebuilding.

Well I’ve been in community with almost 900 feminist reproductive justice activists, academics, clinicians and organisers from all of the world on the African continent?

Magic ✨

With the rise of the far right in many of our home countries, the politics of exhaustion can feel very real and overwhelming. Yet, this last week with individuals from all over the world I got to listen to the problems in their specific context, how collectives are forming to create solutions and how fearless people are being in the face of real brutality.

We danced, we sang, we ate and most importantly we’ve lifted each other up so, that when we return to our home countries we have the energy and the insight to keep going.

Online spaces have given us so much and yet, we ever growing reproductive censorship there continues to be power in Feminist meeting in person. There will always be something beautiful about meeting face to face.

To protect all those at the event, we all limited our online sharing until after the event had ended. Over the next week, I’m share some of the insights and experiences.

My heart is so full ❤️ Nairobi you were gorgeous.
