POV: A dog mom preparing to leave her heart at home for a few days. 🤍🥹🙏

Found this amazing pill organizer on Amazon to help keep Azul’s medications organized while I’m away.

As much as I’m looking forward to this trip, a part of me is already stressed thinking about whether my girl will take all her medications, eat her meals, and be okay without me. 🥺

Caring for a dog with heart disease has taught me that love is in the smallest details. The schedules, the medications, the meals, and the constant worrying.

I know she’ll be in good hands, but there’s just something about a mother’s love. 😌 No one worries quite like mama does. 💖

Praying my girl does well while I’m away. 🐾

A little GOOD NEWS on Azul’s 🤍 Journey. 🥹🐾

We got the results from her echocardiogram last week, and thankfully, they didn’t find any arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats. 🤍

And another little win… MED TIME. 😭😂

After all the trial and error, I’ve finally been able to give her medications using a pill shooter, followed immediately by a high-value treat. It’s made the whole experience so much easier and more positive for her - and for me. 😆 I still need to figure out how to give her the two larger pills though.. 😌

We’re still taking this journey one day at a time, but today we’re celebrating the wins. 🤍

Thank you to everyone who continues to check on our girl and follow along with Azul’s journey. 👑

Azul’s 🤍 Journey - Update 🐾

Tomorrow our girl heads back to the clinic for an echocardiogram to check on her heart. 🫀🤍

Overall, Azul has been stable, which we’re incredibly grateful for. Tomorrow we’ll get another look at how her heart is doing and we’re hoping and praying to see some positive progress. 🙏

This journey has definitely been one day at a time - medications, appointments, little changes, and celebrating every stable day we get with her. 🫶

Please send our girl some love and good energy for tomorrow. 🥹🤍🐾

I’ll keep sharing her journey in hopes that it helps bring more awareness to heart disease in Dobermans and reminds other dog parents how important heart screenings can be.✨

Azul’s 🤍 Journey @that_dobe_azul

One of our newest struggles: getting her to take her medications. 😫💊

Pill pockets worked.. until they didn’t. 🙃

Just like I was afraid of, Azul has officially decided she is OVER them. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

And when your girl is on 6 different medications, given around the clock - morning, afternoon, evening AND bedtime - finding something she’ll consistently take them with is kind of a big deal. 😅

So today I picked up this Twist + Lick gel at PetSmart and we’re trying a new method. 🤞

At this point I feel like administering medication has become its own full-time job. 🫶

But whatever keeps my girl taking what
she needs, Momma will figure it out. ❤️‍🩹

Wish us luck because we NEED this one to work. 🙏

And if you’re caring for a dog who takes multiple medications.. please tell me your tricks. What actually works for you⁉️

Day 1 of Azul’s heart journey. 🤍🐾

I’ve gone back and forth about how much of this I wanted to share publicly. Truthfully, I think part of me still hasn’t fully processed it.

Azul is only 5 years old and is now living with DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) + heart failure.

It’s scary. It’s overwhelming. And some days, it’s really hard not to think about how much time we may or may not have together.

But today I decided I want to start documenting our journey.

The appointments. The medications. What I’m learning. The scary days. The good days. The little victories. And most importantly..✨life with Azul. 🤍

I’m sharing this partly for me, so I can hold onto these memories forever. But I’m also sharing because if our story reaches even one Doberman parent who is searching for answers, recognizing symptoms, or navigating a DCM diagnosis of their own, maybe something good can come from something that has been so difficult.

So this is the beginning.

Azul’s Heart Journey: Living with DCM + Heart Failure.

One day at a time. And hopefully, many, many more days together. 🤍🐾
