Diagnostic complete! Joining the MERGE family as a resident DJ is no stranger to the party, Juana - a fixture of North America’s techno ecosystem for more than two decades now. Juana’s approach to the genre is equal parts timeless and modern. Her sound is uniquely resolute, and most certainly inspires a defiant punch!

Hailing from Chicago, where her love of dance music truly took form, Juana has spent much of her career cultivating in DC’s underground, where she still holds court through her own party NOXEEMA JACKSON - a space dedicated to uplifting techno’s QT BIPOC voices. She’s no stranger to Brooklyn, as she most recently held residency at the formative Unter parties here and has made regular appearances on the borough’s club circuit.

As a producer, her most recent EP “We Are Everything We Think We’re Not” was released in March 2024, and she is currently working to release more.

Her residency kicks off at the MERGE OLYMPICS, where she opens the main room from 10pm-1am on Friday, 1/30/2026!

From Juana: “When it comes to Merge, there is a playfully defiant authenticity there that has made me feel welcomed, safe, and understood from the jump. I know I’m not alone in that. The music of the underground is potent, culturally and socially. Dance floors at the rave are places where hearts and minds find solidarity and openness, and the dance floor at any given Merge is one of the best anywhere. I’m honored to join the crew at a time when our music and our community are probably more crucial than ever. I look forward to many wonderful nights and mornings amongst the amazing people who have coalesced around these parties. And they are damn good parties.“

Tonight, we welcome @that_juana to Bastet.

Chicago-born and forged through D.C.’s underground, Juana moves with a deep devotion to Midwest techno - raw, hypnotic, soulful, and bound to the dancefloor. From her early days as a founding member of Sequence to rooms like Berghain, De School, and Fabric, she’s built a language that stretches through techno, deep house, disco, and rare grooves without losing the thread.

A producer, community builder, founder of NOXY, and now a resident of Brooklyn’s MERGE, Juana has spent more than two decades pushing underground dance culture forward.

Originally hailing from Chicago, @that_juana is a veteran selector who has been making dance floors move since 2001. Her sound is deeply rooted in the raw, underground spirit of her hometown, with an undying penchant for Midwest techno. She has a background blending rare grooves, disco, techno, and deep house, which quickly made her a central figure in Washington, DC. She was a founding member of the influential Sequence collective, helping to establish a darker, more industrial techno aesthetic in the capital.

Juana’s creativity and technical mastery has led to bookings at global institutions like Berghain, De School, and Fabric, as well as international festivals such as Draaimolen. Juana has headlined major festivals in the US such as Wire, The Great Beyond, Ladyland, and HONCHO, and has been a yearly fixture at numerous Movement afterhours. As a producer, she has expanded her sonic footprint with releases on Bound, World Building, Faith Beat, and Illegal Alien, alongside her acclaimed solo EPs Floating and Peaks.

A dedicated community builder, Juana continues to champion queer, BIPOC-led spaces. In 2021, she founded the @party_at_noxys (NOXY) collective in D.C., and in 2026, she became the newest resident of one of Brooklyn’s most popular raves, MERGE.

Come see what Juana does to a room. September 19.

ANNOUNCEMENT – SEQUENCE returns to DC for one night on October 24, 2026 to celebrate 10 years of renegade techno.

SEQUENCE began in the humid months of 2016 when a few dedicated techno DJs decided to put a techno scene in DC. The SEQUENCE party series built friendships, relationships, and even new collectives in its wake. From the basements to industrial kitchens, SEQUENCE became a needed respite to the stresses of the nation’s capital, almost always featuring the Grand Ancestor Presidential Sound System and internationally known talent. Even if the original organizers did not realize it, the imprint from SEQUENCE would last long after its active era ending in 2020.

Ten years later, the original SEQUENCE organizers have reunited to commemorate this special anniversary with artists from the halcyon days along with new faces. If we celebrate as before, we will provide that next level sonic experience, safely within our own non-existence.

Washington, DC Location TBA. Location address will be sent on the day of the event via email with ticket purchase and/or RSVP.

Tickets are live now. Link in the bio.

SATURDAY 9/12 BLACK BOX @blackboxdc
10PM - 3AM | AGES 21+ | FLOORS 1 & 2
Tickets linked in bio

Be sure to catch both techno trailblazers Clarisa Kimskii & Juana:

CLARISA KIMSKII - Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Clarisa Kimskii has cemented her musical footprint on the borough since moving back in 2022. Through a palpable blend of psychedelic and driving techno, Clarisa’s approach to the genre is deeply idiosyncratic - an assemblage of both timeless and modern grooves. As a producer, Clarisa has contributed to a handful of respected labels (Monday Off, Dusk & Haze, Mysteries of the Deep, etc.) within her sonic niche, but it’s through her own label L.A.G where the ethos of her sound truly takes form - a detailed variation of propulsive and atmospheric soundscapes. Clarisa is deeply rooted in the techno subculture’s underground, and in early 2022 - the 20+ year veteran was named resident DJ of the Brooklyn-based, queer party Merge. Through her former residency at Merge and regular appearances at the city’s premiere institutions in BASEMENT Nowadays and Bossa Nova Civic Club Clarisa’s prestige is undeniably felt.

The saga continues with juicy bits on the horizon.

JUANA - Juana has enticed crowds all over the world at venues such as Berghain, LuxFrágil, Fabric, Smartbar, Basement, Nowadays, and countless festivals and underground warehouse gigs. She originally hails from the city of Chicago where she cultivated her love for the underground at clubs like Smartbar and The Generator and parties such as Soul in the Hole and Boom Boom Room. She began DJing in roughly 2001 and moved to DC in 2003 where she began hosting weekly live internet radio shows on HandzOnRadio (Baltimore) and Cyberjamz (Tampa) and playing parties in the DC scene, upping her skills alongside her mentor and legendary DJ Sam “the Man” Burns, and at clubs including Red and the DC Sanctuary. Juana started obsessively collecting disco and early house records in the late 90s and eventually developed an undying penchant for straight-ahead techno and deeper, darker shades of first and second-wave Chicago dance music. by @that_juana

Truly I have been waiting for years to DJ at this place. And how bout that: we have been picked! Will be getting down with some proper techno goodies plus whatever else I’m in the mood for, joining @laspacer and @jsalvarez.000 for what will be a fun night. The weather looks lovely so no excuses to cover your butt with. By the way, I love this flyer because I see the top half of two brutalist sculptures of a squinting Sam the Eagle, kinda squished together. Right? No? Link in bio. by @that_juana

Alright so here are some of my captured moments from @honchopgh campout this year. You’ll note that most of these are from The Groove (the extra “o” is for “overstimulated chirren climbing on shit”). But that’s where I lived essentially, so that’s that!

There were many, many other favorite moments I couldn’t record because either I was tryna be a good werker or my phone was in my tent, full, dead, too hot, on the skinny yellow, MIA, or deceas-ed.

Thanks @honchopgh for trusting me yet again with the care and feeding of a campout stage (shoutout big boss @chriscruse). Working this event is one of the most fulfilling gigs I could hope for. What a squad. I’m still blown away by all the beautiful sets I got to witness and people i got to meet and work and spend time with at the Grove and throughout Four Quarters. Will post some videos I grabbed at some point.

Most of all, though, I really hope that that person located the key to their Roadside Ass. I’d be absolutely beside myself. by @that_juana
