Teaching my grandson the BASSics. 😏🎶

Somewhere Over the Rainbow... Dorothy Took a Wrong Turn 🎃

That yellow brick road looks a little different after dark... 👀

Throwing it back to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” with @devinmariemusic. Her haunting rendition pulled me right in... and of course, I had to bring a little bass.

The minor key makes it! That familiar Wizard of Oz melody takes on a beautifully eerie feel.

🎃 It’s spooky season!

I did a duet with @iamserenabelle on this a few years ago.

We’re both singing the melody, but her soprano and my bass give the song two distinct colors at once.

Then right at the end, I break away into harmony... and that’s where it really opens up.

“Come Little Children” already has that eerie, hypnotic quality, but hearing the same melody through a soprano and a deep bass voice gives it a different vibe.

Some songs just belong to a season, and this one always seems to find its way back around when October hits.

I wanted to try something different with Labrinth’s “Jealous.”

It became an acting study in emotional contrast.

The vocal is intentionally understated... restrained, controlled, almost emotionally guarded.

So instead of matching that understated vocal with equally understated visuals, I challenged myself to do the opposite.

In the cutscenes, I let the character show everything the voice was holding back... the hurt, grief, anger, loneliness, and emotional turmoil beneath the surface.

Deep pain doesn’t always sound dramatic. Sometimes the voice keeps calm while everything underneath falls apart.

That was the experiment... could I keep the vocal restrained and still make you feel the full weight of what the character was going through? Let me know if it landed.

The Walls Were Talking at The Woodson

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to sit in on an intimate artist presentation with Atlanta-based visual artist Najee Dorsey during Free Museum Day at the newly renovated Woodson African American Museum of Florida.

Seeing the work was powerful. Hearing directly from the man who created it gave it another dimension entirely.

Najee’s art does more than revisit history. Through bold collage, scale, color and symbolism, it brings generations into the same room and asks us to look again...not only at where we have been, but at what we are carrying forward.

It was a genuine pleasure to meet him, hear the intention behind the work and spend a few moments speaking with him afterward.

The renovated Woodson is beautiful, but its greatest strength is what now fills those walls...memory, resistance, identity, achievement and stories that deserve to remain visible.

If you live in or visit St. Petersburg, put The Woodson on your list. This is not simply a place where history is displayed. It is a place where history continues to speak.

Who Let a Bass Singer Into Willy Wonka’s Factory?! 🍫😂
