For almost two years, this cast has traveled together, worked together, laughed together, and shared the responsibility of telling this story.

Now, this chapter of Last Out is beginning to come to a close.

Harbor Beach, Michigan will be one of the last opportunities to see this talented and dedicated cast perform Last Out: Elegy of a Green Beret together. We’re proud of what we’ve built, proud of the story we’ve been entrusted to tell, and proud to have told it alongside one another.

Happy birthday to my girl. ❤️

A couple of years ago, Dana took a pretty damn brave leap. She bet on herself, started down a completely new road, and watching her build her business and really come into her own has made me incredibly proud.

I admire her. I respect the hell out of her. She works hard, cares deeply about her clients, and somehow still puts up with me.

There’s nobody I’d rather wander around Italy with, build a life with, or come home to.

I wrote this on September 11, 2002, one year after the attacks. I haven’t shared it in several years, but today felt like the right day.

25 years ago today, Band of Brothers premiered on HBO.

It’s difficult to explain how much this series means to me.

It began airing during the period surrounding 9/11, when it was becoming clear that our country was going to war. I found an enormous amount of comfort in the story of Easy Company. It reminded me that no matter the conflict, no matter the generation, there have always been good people in this country willing to stand in the gap and protect the rest of us.

It reminded me of something else, too.

Sometimes Hollywood isn’t just entertainment. Sometimes what we do matters.

A couple of years later, HBO announced that Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were going to tell the story of the war in the Pacific. As a Marine veteran, I desperately wanted to be part of it. Not because I thought I was entitled to be there, but because I imagined The Pacific could do for that generation of Marines, like my Uncle Jim Walsh and Dana’s Uncle Pete Cavo, what Band of Brothers had done for Easy Company.

So Dana and I made a fairly insane decision.

We sold the Greenwich Village apartment we had just bought. Dana left her job. I stepped away from a voiceover career that was beginning to really take off. And we packed up our lives and moved our infant son across the country to Los Angeles so I could start over and try to become an actor.

I never made it into The Pacific.

But I became an actor.

And more than twenty years later, I’ve had the privilege of telling stories I never could have imagined telling when we made that decision.

I most likely would not be where I am today if Band of Brothers hadn’t shown me what this medium could be when everyone involved treats the story, the people who lived it, and the audience with respect.

Twenty-five years later, I remain grateful to everyone who made it and to the extraordinary actors who made those men feel so immediate and human.

Some stories entertain us.

Some stay with us.

And every once in a while, one changes the direction of your life.
