Completed my first Spartan Super, visited the oldest republic in the world, visited Italys largest aviation museum, and had the honor of carrying the POW/MIA flag for over an hour of my bases remembrance run. A great mix of ways to celebrate and honor this chapter in my life.

The Accursed Mountains 🛘
I figured, what better way to celebrate turning 25 than flying out to Albania 🇦🇱, relying on public transport, making my way up to the brutal peaks of the Balkans, briefly sneaking into Montenegro 🇲🇪, eating goat cheese, and exploring Post Communist cities. Had a great time, completed some brutal day hikes, and realized having a developed pre-frontal cortex does not actually stop you from making poor decisions. taken in Accursed Mountains by @thatcherlaprise

Il Cammino Celeste: Stages 5-12. 85 miles, 20k ft of ascent, over 40 hours of hiking in 5.5 days. Truly a religious experience, hitting killer grades in over 100F weather. Met some great people along the way, between other pilgrims and French ravers. Just me, Pingo, and a hammock following that fish up to Tarvisio.

Now, for anyone thinking about doing this trail. Do not do it in August. Do not start on a Sunday. Do not expect business to be open and serving food. Most towns you’ll stop by have nothing in them, or only have meals available on certain days, and could not care less that you’re on a Camino. Treat this trail as being self supported, and book far ahead of time if you want any accommodations. A huge part of the challenge for me on this experience was going in with assumptions based on what the internet had to say about it, particularly the Cammino Celeste website. Don’t trust any of it. But, if you’re willing to embrace the suck, this truly is an amazing challenge to undertake taken in Monte Lussari, Tarvisio, Italy by @thatcherlaprise

6 countries in 6 days 🇱🇻🇮🇹🇸🇮🇦🇹🇭🇷🇩🇪 talk about a Euro summer. From the Naughty Squirrel to Soca Valley to Ramstein, it’s been some insane traveling lately, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it.

A lesson with a Smith and Wesson

Books coming along great, pulling some artwork for it and organizing peons

Subway jazz before the Backrooms was surreal

Still can’t dance

No idea what we were looking at

Soviet Era Camera! All manual film, made in the USSR

Saw some sheep

Did some white water kayaking

Tried to be photogenic

You’ll never guess what’s on the next slide

Largest waterfall in Slovenia. They call them “Slaps” over there

Dope statue in Trieste

Checked out the ruins of Castello di Piedimonte

Traded some beers for Croatian grappa

Saw some amazing sunsets

Met plenty of strays, from cats and dogs to locals and backpackers

Ended up at a jazz festival by accident

And now I’m tucked away in a little corner of Germany for a while taken in Europa by @thatcherlaprise

Life is a little better on film

I sent one of the most terrifying emails of my life today. I reached out to a publishing company in Poland about the details for having a short run of my poetry collection printed. There’s so much to do, organizing my poems, getting black and white sketches for the book, figuring out the title. Yet, I’ve decided it’s too late to turn around now. I’m going to have 50 copies ready by December, that’s a promise to myself and everyone who’s supported my writing these last few years. When life’s got you down, get your elevation up ⛰️. Had an awesome stay at the one and only @gingermonkeyhostel on the Slovakian 🇸🇰 side of the Tatras Mountains. Truly and unforgettable experience, hiking The Saddle, Coin Flip Valley, and past the waterfalls to the Cold Valley. Explored an abandoned hotel, threw a snowball in July, wielded a sword in Krakow, and did a little bit of writing. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Assessed my risk appetite. Turns out I was starving
AV1, Attempt 2. 5.5 days, 19,400 ft of elevation, 75 miles/125 km. The hardest I’ve ever pushed myself, and the happiest I’ve ever been for it. Living in the woods, reheating meals, carb loading with beers and apple strudel, and putting one foot in front of the other. What a f*cking week.

The Scotland Files

Finally got my film developed from my trip to Scotland. Truly a beautiful way to capture such an experience. As I make my way through Alta Via 1 (again) I’m taking pics again, but I’m not sure they’ll have as much aura as some of these taken in Scotland by @thatcherlaprise

The Marche Internationale di Diekirch in Luxembourg
What an amazing group I got to do this event with. Back to back 20km rucks was such a great experience. Luggage was lost, logs were licked, and Luxembourg was lovely.
.
Also visited Trier, home of Karl Marx and the oldest town in Germany.
.
On a sadder note, and I know most won’t reach the last slide for this one, but a good friend of mine passed away while I was gone this weekend. The crazy Italian landlord that I had the distinct pleasure of being a tenant to, Claudio, had a heart attack. He was a damn good man, and it was the most attended funeral I’ve ever seen. Life here in Italy won’t be the same without him, and he will truly be missed.

Alta Via 1: First Attempt
Believe it or not, there’s still snow in the Dolomites mid-May. Regardless, spent two great nights watching deer eat my 💩 in Bivaccos and Malgas with a good friend who definitely regrets following me up that one cliff…

Monte Raut 🏔️ Highest Peak of the Precarnic Alps
Great hike with a great group of people. Super technical trail, definitely pushed myself in a way I haven’t before. 9 hours round trip, well worth it for the experienced hiker taken in Monte Raut by @thatcherlaprise
