What a real delight to be shown around the incredible garden of Pete Richman, naturalist and wildlife pond designer. Pete’s award-winning work has featured in countless publications and over the years he has given numerous talks, sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise. I was shown one of the very first ponds Pete ever built, at the age of just 12! Back in the days when you could buy cement by the cubic yard, it came as a waterproof premix. The largest concrete pond in his garden is finished with a tar-based coating, is over 50 years old and even incorporates a hibernaculum (an amphibian refuge) built into the waterfall rockery. I gained so much insight into ponds, plants and wildlife from Pete, who was incredibly generous with his time and knowledge. His wonderful garden is a lifetime’s work, a testament to his passion for wildlife and a living example of what can be achieved with patience, creativity and a deep understanding of nature. A truly inspiring visit and an absolute pleasure to meet him. by @thatmikearmstrong

As some of you know, I do brand work for @campbellsofleyburn1868 the award-winning, family-owned supermarket based in the Dales. While renovating their specialist wine department, they recently uncovered some real gems, including this bottle of Turpin Frères & Riout 1964 Sauternes.👌 Labelled “Négociants à Bordeaux (France)”, it’s a reminder of how the Bordeaux wine trade once worked. A négociant isn’t a vineyard owner but a wine merchant who buys wine from growers and estates before bottling, ageing, marketing and selling it under their own label. Before the internet, international shipping and modern marketing, many Bordeaux châteaux had no practical way of selling wine around the world themselves. Négociants acted as the bridge between producers and customers, helping establish Bordeaux as one of the world’s great wine regions. Some became hugely influential in their own right, with respected merchant houses often carrying as much weight as the wines they sold. Today, famous négociant companies include @louisjadot, @mahler_besse and @cvbg_bordeaux. I’m not much of a drinker these days but white Bordeaux will always be my first love.❤️ by @thatmikearmstrong

The future of functional drinks isn’t flavour, it’s dosage. Dosage is the new ABV. ABV currently signals hedonism, tolerance and rebellion. Dosage may come to signal knowledge, discipline and access to premium wellness products. Dosage will allow us to play different status games and it could transform retail venues into modern drugstores / chemists. Trusted social wellness spaces will change how and why we socialise. ………………………………………………………………………….. @tilray Brands acquisition of 11 @brewdogofficial bars (+IP) positions them to enter this space… with CBD / THC drinks… leaning into the rebel / wellness vibe and pivoting from bar / restaurant to drugstore / hangout. by @thatmikearmstrong
