We took the coconut boat tour in Hoi An and, honestly, expected a little more. It was a relaxed, low-key experience.

When we visited, the area was peaceful and quiet, although the water had a slight smell and a few people approached us to sell things.

A polite “no, thank you” was all it took, and they were fine with that.

Here’s a quick heads-up about the extra costs. We were asked if we wanted a photo on the boat, but there was no pressure to buy one.

It cost 100,000 VND and included both a digital copy and a printed copy.

Then, out on the water, the boatman spinning the coconut boat asked for another 100,000 VND per person. For the two of us, that came to 200,000 VND on top of the tour we’d already booked.

The café where the tour begins also sells souvenirs and fresh coconut water.

You can also pick up sweetened dried coconut there for 100,000 VND — a lovely little treat.

So, is it worth it? If you enjoy nature and peaceful experiences, you may like it. It’s a simple boat ride through a canal lined with coconut palms.

But if you decide to skip it during your Hoi An trip, you won’t be missing a major highlight.

It’s a nice extra, rather than a must-do.

Have you been here? Use the poll to tell us!
