🎂 I can't believe we have a 1 year old! 🥹
Our clever, sweet and feisty little boy is one... I've been a mom for a year. We've been parents for a year?!?

I wrote "Love Mom" in his card last night and cried and cried... It's the first time I've written that and it really hit me.
This is how he came into the world...

Today a year ago we went in for a tracing at the hospital to check that baby was ok. I was 3 days past 40 weeks and my OBGYN wanted me to do the tracing(heart rate scan) every other day to make sure he was fine until he came or we decided on a date. Sunday the 1st of December 2024 we went for a tracing like we did the Friday before. I had woken up Saturday and Sunday SUPER energised around 3-4AM (VERY uncommon for me) and was certain my contractions were going to start. I had some strange cramps, but nothing really concrete. There was some spotting which I'm certain was my mucus plug, but again. Nothing else really.
So we're doing the tracing, the nurse then does the very unpleasant internal check and says I'm 1cm dilated, but we can leave. Not 5mins later she returns as I'm getting dressed to leave and says "We need to get you ready, you're having an emergency C-section in 40mins" 🥲 I beg your finest pardon ... WHAT?!
Turns out she showed my OBGYN the tracing paper and she said Sergio's heart rate was dropping and he was in distress. She didn't need to say anything else, I was good to go. Shortly after she arrived at the hospital. As I was being wheeled into theatre my water broke, I like to think that was a sign that he was ready to come, and a short bit later he was in my arms. This teeny tiny precious little person.

As I type this he's in my arms fast asleep.

It has been a year of high highs and low lows, but I would not change being his mother for anything.

Motherhood will teach you so much about yourself. It's a continuous cycle of your heart breaking and bursting with joy over and over.

🌹🌸🌷Happy heavenly Birthday, Vovo! ❤️🕊️❤️ We miss you so so much. I still can't believe you're not here anymore, but I like to believe that you waited to meet Sergio and for him to be here before you left.

The last 3 months have been really tough. I think about you all the time and the tears haven't stopped, but I know you're at peace and no longer in pain and that helps a little. I think about you whenever I see roses or cosmos. When I smell chicken soup. When I see one of the MANY things you knitted or sewed for us. When I see Vicks or those endearmints, your big orange scissors.
I love you forever.
