This game day vlog is a little different this week. 🤍

I was originally going to share our old Coastal vlog style, complete with Kort's little voiceover showing you the day from her perspective. 🥹

But instead, I felt like something else was placed on my heart this weekend, and I just needed to talk about it.

So this one is a little more personal, a little more emotional, and not what I originally planned on posting.

I also didn’t film a ton this weekend, so I clipped together what I had, including some familiar faces from years past. 🤍

Because a young woman trusted one boy.

She knew Matthew. She had a reason to believe she could trust him. She trusted him enough to go with him into that house.

And that trust ultimately led her into a situation where seven men SA'd her.

Here’s what I can’t stop thinking about:

She was hurt by seven, but she was failed by 50.

There were 57 active members of that fraternity, and a Snapchat group for those members where messages about this young woman were being sent.

And instead of someone saying:

“What the hell is going on?”

“We shouldn’t be doing this.”

“Leave her alone.”

“Is she okay?”

There were messages encouraging people to come upstairs and that the "free" “shop” was still open.

And THAT among a million things about this story and people's reaction is what scares me.

As a mom of a little girl and two boys, I pray with everything in me that my daughter never comes into contact with disgusting human beings who could treat another person that way.

But I pray just as hard for my sons.

Because I don’t just want to teach my boys how to avoid being the person who causes harm.

I want to teach them how to recognize when someone else is being harmed.

How to step in.

How to speak up.

How to protect someone who cannot protect herself.

How to have the courage to say, “This isn’t okay.”

One day my daughter will walk into a room without me.

And one day my sons will be the men standing in rooms I am not in.

I can’t control every person my daughter will encounter.

But I can do everything in my power to equip my sons to be the kind of men I pray my daughter encounters.

She trusted one. Seven hurt her. And 50 had a chance to be better.

Another Saturday in the books at Paulson, and while the scoreboard didn’t go our way, this team fought HARD and gave us plenty to be proud of.

Now onto conference play… and we’re headed back to the teal field. 🌊🏈 just on the other side of the ball 👀🦅

Where have I been?

Dealing with life lifing.

Helping my kids through their own emotions of missing their dad (Missing my husband). Sickness. Dealing with my own emotions of missing my family. Trying to hold everything together when the people who normally help me hold it together are 1,300 miles away.

Living away from your village is hard.

And if I’m being completely honest, lately I feel like I’m constantly failing my kids.

I’m stretched thin. I’m exhausted. I’m trying to be everything for everyone, and some days I just don’t have anything left.

And I know I’m not the only coach’s wife feeling this way right now. We’re all doing a lot. We’re raising kids, running households, supporting our husbands, adjusting, missing people, and trying to keep it all together while football keeps moving.

Give the coach’s wives in your life some grace right now. You probably have no idea what they’re carrying behind the scenes.

And I’m incredibly thankful that, even 1,300 miles from my own family, I’ve found a village in the coach’s wives here. The coach's wives from other schools and our group have made this season of life feel a little less lonely.

I don’t really have a pretty ending for this. I’m just in it right now.

The more the kids ask for him when he’s not home, and the more late nights he has where they don’t get to see him before they fall asleep, the more I realize just how much he is the piece that makes our home feel whole for all of us....

It’s not the house. It’s not the city. It’s not even the routine.
