It’s been 365 days… but who’s counting? My heart has been longing for you every minute, every second since you left. Today marks a year since I left your side to attend my graduation and you slipped away in my absence. Sometimes, I really wish I didn’t get to leave you that day. Maybe you would’ve seen me there and felt sorry and you would’ve kept fighting to stay with me just as you were doing before.

They call it an anniversary, but what’s there to celebrate? It’s only a stark reminder of a void and a hole in the universe shaped exactly like your kind heart.

There are days I crave conversations with you but can’t have them, nights when I go to bed wishing I’d wake up and find out this was all a cruel prank. I still search for you in every room I walk into. I’ve tried to find traces of you in everyone I meet but none compare. Not a minute goes by that I don’t miss you my dearest Maima.

My heart still beats and my body still shakes just like the day I got the news of your death. Even after a year, I still feel like screaming out loud as if that could somehow bring you back.

The day you died, something inside me died too. Oh how it hurts! It’s been chaos ever since yet I find solace knowing you loved and served the Lord faithfully, and that you’re now in a better place. I will endure a lifetime of missing you for the privilege of loving you.
