POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
today marks 8 years since I was kidnapped by my uber driver

you truly never think something like that will happen to you until it does. and for years I questioned if there could have been something to prevent what had happened to me.

a year ago, I met @rajiaxoxo at TikTok HQ in NYC for an event we were both speaking at. she told me about the discreet safety charm she invented for women’s safety, which led to me sharing my story with her.

truly I had NEVER found a safety device/tool I wanted to carry, but mostly because from my own experience I knew most of the safety tools on the market would not have saved me.

there are so many more God-details in the story, but fast forward a little over one year later, here we are

I am so proud to be partnered with @invisawear raising awareness and promoting a mission to make the world a safer place for women.

and I am deeply humbled in sharing the stories of @baylieswishfoundation @gabbypetitofoundation

I’m truly in awe of how God has turned the worst thing that ever happened to me into an opportunity to prevent others from having the same experience

it’s true that nothing can take back the trauma, years of severe anxiety and depression I experienced, therapy, the way my studies or relationships suffered… all because of that one decision getting into an uber to get home ‘safely’

but I’m reminded of Job 2:25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have stolen”

and from the recent series of events in my life… I can tell you He does.

I offer you a perspective shift that maybe your pain was never about you. it was about the people who you are meant to serve.

you can chase money and career and success all you want in life, but nothing will compare to the feeling of fulfillment when you look at the hand you have been dealt in life, recognize that you are more than a conqueror, that your pain shaped you into a stronger, better version of yourself. that it gave you immense purpose

and then from that place, you pour back to the people who need it most.

that is what it’s about. by @thatserinbroadus

the peace you’ve been searching for isn’t on the other side of clarity… it’s on the other side of surrender.

we were never promised that what God ordains would be easy or clear or free from opposition — we were promised a peace that surpasses understanding, which means by design it doesn’t require understanding to be present.

if you only feel peace when everything makes sense, that’s not peace. that’s control. and your control will not fix what only surrender can heal.

release it. ask for His strength. stop managing what God is trying to move 🤍 #spiritualgrowth #christianwomen by @thatserinbroadus

you don’t have to wait until you’ve accomplished more, healed more, or figured more out to be proud of yourself.

let yourself be here for this version of your life, too. 🩷 by @thatserinbroadus

God given gifts and ideas aren’t meant to be optional… They’re meant to be stewarded. If you feel restless, unfulfilled or called tomorrow, it’s probably because you’ve been ignoring the thing. God has placed inside of you.

The ultimate test of surrender is being willing to lay it down even when it’s the thing that you love the most. And learning how to trust God with everything is the greatest privilege you’ll ever know. Although it might also be the most difficult lesson you’ll ever learn.

there’s something wild about looking at your life and realizing things are finally coming together in ways you couldn’t have planned!!

some of the things I spent years trying to force never worked out... and some of the things I thought would break me ended up changing the direction of my life in ways I couldn’t have predicted

surrender has taught me that I can stop trying to orchestrate my life and trust that I’m moving toward something better than I would have planned on my own.

right now, I’m doing more of the work I love, stepping into opportunities I never could have orchestrated myself, and feeling more at peace than I did when I was trying to control everything

God really does see the bigger picture; even when all you can see is what fell apart 🤍 if you’re in a season of letting go, I hope this meets you where you are, welcome to The Lost Art of Surrender 💫 by @thatserinbroadus

healing alone has a ceiling.

you can do all the work, learn all the language, understand all your patterns, and still not know whether any of it actually changed until you have to try it in front of someone.

and that’s where it gets real. that’s where the old version of you gets the chance to rise and you get to choose differently.

love was never designed to be something you arrive at fully ready. Christ loved the church sacrificially, not because it was perfect, but because love is a choice… and in relationship, we are called to do the same.

stop waiting to be healed enough. get ready by going there 🤍 by @thatserinbroadus

It’s a privilege to do work that is meaningful

A little over a year ago, I met @rajiaxoxo , the founder of Invisawear, at an event we were both speaking at in NYC. I shared my story with her, and that conversation eventually led to me becoming a creator for Invisawear and getting involved behind the scenes with the brand.

A few weekends ago, I found myself in New Jersey at the What’s My Name? 5K, having conversations with Sami Josephson’s family and friends to both hear her story, and share it with more people.

Truly, I don’t take that responsibility lightly.

As a survivor myself, these conversations over the last few months have definitely brought up more than I expected. There’s a weight to sitting across from families whose daughters never made it home that is difficult to put into words, when I know that my story could have ended very differently.

But it is also a privilege.

a privilege to listen
a privilege to help tell their stories
and a privilege to be part of a mission working toward a world where fewer families have to experience this kind of loss

I never could have imagined that something I once wished I could erase from my story would eventually become part of the work I’m called to do.

and I’m so grateful God continues to show me that sometimes the hardest parts of our stories can become the very places we’re able to serve from 🤍

I am grateful to @invisawear and the @whatsmynamefoundation for trusting me with this work. by @thatserinbroadus
