9/11. I will never forget you. 💔 As I reflect on this day 25 years ago, I can still vividly remember walking to the Hugo Boss showroom at The Starrett-Lehigh building at 601 W. 26th Street that morning. The sky was so beautifully blue, the air clear and crisp. It was Fashion Week and the showroom was starting to bustle. I set my bag down and walked into the all-glass showroom overlooking the Hudson River and downtown Manhattan. Then I heard a roar. I looked out the window and witnessed the unimaginable the first plane hitting Tower 1. I remember the confusion. How could this be? The visibility was perfect. The sky was so blue. I called my father back home in Cleveland and told him what I had just witnessed. He told me to stay in touch and be safe. Looking down at the West Side Highway, I remember seeing people running—some carrying briefcases, women carrying their high heels, people covered in soot and debris. Then came another roar. The second plane. My colleagues and I crammed into our CEO’s office and watched in fear and disbelief. And then, from inside the glass fish bowl overlooking downtown Manhattan, we watched the towers collapse. Eventually, I walked home later that day across the Williamsburg Bridge. Days following, my roommate Heather and I found papers from the World Trade Center on our fire escape of our Williamsburg apartment. Twenty-five years later, I still remember the sounds, the people I was with, the bravery of New Yorkers and fellow human’s and that beautiful, perfectly blue sky. To those who lost their lives, their families, and the brave humans who ran toward danger when everyone else was trying to escape we will never forget you. 🕊️ by @thayerwoods

Today I celebrate a year ago - I underwent a very long and intensive double mastectomy after being diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer called Ductal carcinoma in Situ (DCIS). It’s hard to believe how quickly a year has passed. I’m feeling incredibly grateful - for my amazing doctors, their teams, and the compassionate care I received at Huntington Hospital. Not a day goes by that I don’t think, I can’t believe I went through this. Four surgeries later, I’ve never felt better. I continue to heal and find strength every single day and mentally digesting. Still a work in progress. This journey has given me clarity and perspective on what matters, what I value, and what I want more in life. Im beyond thankful for my wonderful nurse and husband @toddooooh my compassionate daughters, my family, my beautiful friends near and far and my village that carried me through. Thank you! Please with this, stay on top of your mammograms and sonograms, Smile, take good care of you, breathe and know this too shall pass. With love + gratitude. 🩷 Thayer #dciscancer #dcisrecovery #livefortoday #breastcancerwarrior #huntingtonhospitalhasheart #northwellhealth #friedmancenter #pinkaidlongisland #ribbonsrising by @thayerwoods

While October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to take this opportunity to finally share my personal story (gulp) in hopes of raising awareness and encouraging you to stay diligent with your mammograms. This past January, during my routine mammogram and sonogram, something unusual was detected. Thanks to advanced imaging technology and a skilled radiologist, I was quickly scheduled for a biopsy on my left breast. After the biopsy and MRI results came in, I received the news: I had Stage 0 Breast Cancer, known as Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS). This early, non-invasive cancer develops when abnormal cells grow in the milk ducts of the breast. What followed was an emotional journey filled with questions, research, and consultations with incredible oncologists and plastic surgeons, both locally and in NYC. I also leaned on my family, friends in medicine and those who have faced similar battles for support. 🩷 After further testing, including more painful biopsies, additional DCIS was found in my left breast, and the only option was a double mastectomy. In May, I underwent a lengthy surgery for the double mastectomy. I am beyond grateful to my breast surgeon Dr. Busch-Devereaux, and my plastic surgeon, Dr. Adam Perry, whose expertise and care have been instrumental in my recovery. As I prepare for my reconstruction surgery this month, I remain hopeful and positive, knowing that I am in excellent hands. This journey has taught me to live for today—the NOW. I am so incredibly grateful for my family, my loving husband and nurse, my beautiful caring girls, my friends, my Doctors, my nurses, my community, and the brave new friends I’ve met along this crazy journey, who are also survivors and such warriors! With this, please stay on top of your mammograms and spread awareness. With love + gratitude. 🙏🏼🩷 You are brave. You are strong. You are fierce. You can do this! 🩷🙏🏼 #breastcancerawareness #dcis #bekindtoyourself #advocateforyourself #mammogramawareness #breastcancersurvior #breastcancerwarrior #nowistoday #earlydetectionsaveslives #pinkoctober #survivorstrong #pinkaidlongisland #pinkaid by @thayerwoods
