@thaynerich might get older, but that rodeo 9 blunt stays the same age 🤯 (not to discount the first rodeo 5 though…).

Before sponsorships, social media, and highlight reels, there were kids in Utah getting creative.

For Thayne Rich, that meant getting towed into jumps behind a Honda Civic, chasing ski dreams with whatever resources he had. Years later, he’d become a professional skier featured in some of the most iconic ski films.

This episode is packed with stories about travel disasters, ski culture, persistence, and what it really took to make it as a pro.

What was your first obsession growing up? by @thaynerich

A 40-hour scramble to Argentina with a dead computer. A full-speed train sprint across Japan with ski bags and no idea where to go. And growing up in Utah getting towed into sketchy jumps behind a Honda Civic.

This week on Small Lake City, pro skier and ski builder Thayne Rich shares the stories behind the highlight reel. We talk about growing up skiing Alta and Park City, taking risks to chase a professional skiing career, filming ski movies, surviving travel chaos around the world, and helping build skis at 4FRNT.

One of my favorite conversations about what it really takes to follow a passion long enough to turn it into a career.

Also, what’s the craziest travel mishap you’ve ever had? by @thaynerich

@thaynerich clips aging like fine wine! Two legendary shots from Thayne’s @level1 debut in “Pleasure” along with a textbook sw 7 from @strictlycreate’s “Wildcard” just for good measure.

Little did we know that “Pleasure” was Thayne’s first time heli skiing. Sizing features from a bird is not easy, and he found that out the hard way. What else went down on that shoot? How did this behemoth double come to be?
