Katie Zacharia, White House press secretary, called Trump "the most family-friendly president we've ever had" at her first briefing on Oct 13, 2026.

The former Fox News and Newsmax commentator and mother of four replaced Karoline Leavitt, who left the job in late August. From the podium she said of her kids, "Though my work will be demanding, they will always be a priority," adding that Trump knew she had four children and still trusted her with the role.

Three days later she was gone. NBC News and AP reported on Oct 16 that she was out after five days, following a shaky first briefing and the revelation that she had not passed the bar exam.

Ukraine war poll: should the world back Ukraine until victory? Zelensky, Western aid and peace talks, October 2026.

The US has hosted Ukraine, European powers and NATO in Miami for talks on ending the war "ahead of winter." Russia didn't show up. Secretary of State Marco Rubio calls it a dangerous "stalemate" that could end in escalation.

Europe is carrying more of the load. Crisis Group says the EU is now Ukraine's biggest backer, with a €60bn defence package in its support loan.

Russia biggest threat to the UK: new YouGov poll results 🇷🇺🇬🇧

A YouGov poll of 6,096 British adults asked which country poses the biggest threat to the UK today:
Russia 46%
USA 12%
Iran 11%
Israel 5%
China 4%
North Korea 1%
Another country 1%
No country 5%
Don't know 16%

Russia leads by a huge margin, while America, Britain's closest ally, ranks second. MI5 chief Sir Ken McCallum backs the top spot, calling Russia "aggressor number one" as hybrid warfare and spying against Britain rise.

BREAKING: China's newest humanoid is the size of a two-storey wall.

Beijing startup NeodraDynamics unveiled Neo1 with JD Industrial at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai: about 4 m (13 ft) tall, 1.2 tonnes (about 2,650 lb), with a claimed 500 kg (about 1,100 lb) two-arm payload. Thirty-nine of its 41 joints are hydraulic.

The target: mines, ports, nuclear sites and heavy assembly. These are company claims, not yet field-proven.

Kalshi traders put a humanoid robot walking on Mars before a human (before 2035) at about 52%.

Kamala Harris isn't running. Yet. But the machinery is moving.

The Wall Street Journal reports she's laying the groundwork for a third White House bid: meeting major donors, hiring staff, and hitting battleground states for the midterms. Publicly, she's undecided: "I have not decided if I'm going to run again."

She's dropped hints before: "I am not done" (BBC, 2025) and "I'm thinking about it" (April). Gavin Newsom says: "I wouldn't run if she ran."

Kalshi traders give her about an 8% shot at the 2028 nomination.

BREAKING: Musk just floated taking on Amazon.

Grok bot users posted Amazon screens warning that "continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use." Musk's first answer: have Grok "buy what you want someplace else." Hours later: "Maybe we should start a competitor to Amazon 🤔"

No company, no product, no launch, just a post. Amazon hasn't publicly confirmed a Grok-specific block.

But the fight is real: who controls the checkout when AI agents do the shopping? The store, or the bot?

"The ice has, in fact, begun to break."

Putin's investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev says Russia and the US are discussing joint data centre projects, "including with the use of small-scale nuclear power plants."

What's missing: a location, a named US partner, and a signed deal. Dmitriev admits sanctions still make payments hard.

It follows Trump's Russian diesel deal, and Dmitriev says "several other significant initiatives" are coming soon.

"If someone is foolish enough to attack us, we will fight."

NATO's top military commander, US Air Force Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, used the Warsaw Security Forum to spell out how the alliance would respond to any attack on its 32 members: block the initial attack, blunt it if it persists, and break the enemy's forces and "anything and everything that supports, sustains, and controls that force."

He never named Russia. But the warning lands as NATO's eastern flank faces drones, sabotage and arson, and Moscow says it will use "the entire arsenal… including nuclear weapons" if NATO tries to isolate Kaliningrad.

Trump called Ukraine’s resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries a disgrace. He said the hits only raise world oil prices and that Zelensky is harder to deal with than Putin. Ukraine had paused energy strikes after Trump’s announced ceasefire. Russia kept hitting Ukrainian power sites. Zelensky then said the pause was over. The Ryazan refinery was hit. Trump’s diesel deal with Moscow is meant to ease supply. Lawmakers are already moving against it. Higher oil hits diesel users from truckers to farmers. Ukraine’s ability to strike Russian revenue is now under direct White House pressure. Power is measured by what is delivered, not what is promised. The energy war continues.
