It is indeed curious that across the majority of my vocal training the larynx, without which a tone could not be made, was scarcely mentioned. In fact, when it was, often the instructor’s aim was to underscore its involuntary nature, its submissiveness to the breath. I was then redirected to the shape of the mouth or the position of the tongue, to the mystifying, seemingly endless work of identifying and releasing localized bodily tension. My teaching is a corrective against this inaccurate, deeply flawed, and tragically pervasive framework.
.
If one is not teaching laryngeal coordination, one is not — in my opinion — teaching singing. Singers and teachers bang on and on about “tension,” but until you address the SOURCE of the sound — and, moreover, get back to the primary human impulse of CALLING OUT IN ORDER TO BE HEARD — that tension is going to keep setting up shop around every last part of your body and brain. My work is grounded in getting the cords together, keeping them closed, and releasing the voice directly, gently and without pressure. The results, as my students will attest, are increased clarity, projection, stamina, and a greater sense of confidence.
.
The work takes time, and I do not dally in quick, easy fixes for technical concerns that cannot be addressed quickly or easily. At the same time, while learning to sing may feel at times complex, the action of singing is quite simple and rooted in the urge to communicate. I aim to strip away longstanding contrivance, find the ACTUAL sound you make, and build your skills around the uniqueness of that sound through vocalization.
.
Coming up on my first full year of teaching full time, I can say I have never felt more aligned with my life’s work than I do now. It is an enormous gift to help singers find themselves and reacquaint them with their joy for singing.
.
If you’re curious about working together, reach out or schedule directly via the calendly link in my bio.
.
Without hesitation, I offer my immense gratitude to @hausofshmizzay for his exceptional guidance and support of my skills as both a singer and a teacher. I also am grateful to @morganmastrangelo for making me do this thing. by @the.bryce.is__right

With the end of this week, I mark the end of my season and the start of my vacation (even tho I’m still gonna teach a handful of lessons while I’m vacationing because I need SOMEONE to tell what to do!!!!). I am feeling EXTREMELY proud of my work. I have had students singing all over the world including at major venues, I made my debut Off Broadway and the New York Times said I was gorgeous so it’s a matter of THE HISTORICAL RECORD!, I’ve worked with over 140 singers, I started an advice column and been surprised to have such a participatory readership, and I really believe I’m just getting going. Plus also I look like that. Love to all. See you soon, Santa Fe! by @the.bryce.is__right
