Drapery is one of those details that can completely change how a room feels. ✨

It’s not just about adding fabric to a window. The right drapery can soften a space, improve acoustics, create privacy, control light, add warmth and texture—and even make your ceilings feel taller.

One of my favourite designer tricks? Hang your drapery high and wide. Taking panels closer to the ceiling and extending them beyond the window frame draws the eye upward, makes the window appear larger and allows more natural light in when the drapes are open.

And yes… the length matters. 😉 Floor-length, properly scaled drapery will almost always feel more intentional and elevated than panels that stop short.

Window treatments are the finishing layer that can take a room from almost done to designed.

🎨 Can a colour actually change how you feel?

Meet Baker-Miller Pink — a shade that became famous for its supposed ability to reduce aggression, agitation, and even physical strength. 🩷

Whether or not every claim about this particular pink holds up under modern research, the story behind it highlights something I find fascinating: colour is more than an aesthetic choice.

In interior design, colour can influence how a space feels and how we experience it — calm or energetic, intimate or expansive, warm or clinical. That’s why choosing a paint colour shouldn’t only be about what looks good on a Pinterest board.

Understanding colour psychology gives designers another layer to consider: How do we want you to feel when you’re in this space?

I dive into the fascinating (and slightly controversial 👀) psychology behind Baker-Miller Pink in this video.

Would you ever paint a room this colour? 🩷

The right photographer doesn’t just take beautiful photos. They help you see yourself differently.

Working with Emily was such a special experience. From the moment she stepped into the studio, my goal was to create an environment where she felt confident, relaxed, and completely supported.

One of my favourite parts of what I do is helping women show up confidently in their business and personal brand. Your photos should feel like you, elevated, authentic, and full of personality.

Emily’s kind words truly remind me why I love this work so much. I’m so excited to see her use these images throughout her website and social media as she continues to grow her business.

Why do some people clutter?

It’s easy to assume clutter is a result of laziness or disorganization. But psychology tells a different story.

Clutter is often connected to:
🧠 Decision fatigue
❤️ Emotional attachment
📦 Fear of needing something later
🏡 A desire for comfort and security
🎨 Aspirations for who we want to become
💔 Unresolved grief and loss

Research from Princeton University found that visual clutter competes for our attention, increasing cognitive load and making it harder to focus. Yet for many people, the clutter itself is not the problem, it’s a symptom of something deeper.
As decorators, understanding the psychology behind our spaces helps us create homes that support wellbeing, not just aesthetics.

Have you ever struggled to let go of something, not because you needed it, but because of what it represented?

👇 Tell me which reason surprised you most.

AI can create a beautiful image in seconds.

But can it create a home that actually works?

What you’re seeing online is often an algorithm’s best guess, not a real-world solution. AI images frequently ignore building codes, proper clearance, furniture scale, material limitations, lighting realities, budgets, and how people actually live in a space.

As interior designers, our job isn’t just to create something beautiful. It’s to translate inspiration into reality.

We consider:
✔️ Construction methods
✔️ Furniture dimensions
✔️ Traffic flow
✔️ Functionality
✔️ Budget constraints
✔️ Material availability
✔️ Human behaviour and psychology

A stunning AI image may inspire a vision, but it takes a designer to make that vision livable, buildable, and timeless.

The danger isn’t AI itself, it’s believing that a pretty rendering automatically equals good design.

Design is more than aesthetics.
It’s problem-solving.

Your home might be stressing you out… and you don’t even realize it.

In design psychology, there’s a concept called cognitive load — the amount of mental energy your brain uses to process information.

Too many colours.
Too much clutter.
Poor layouts.
Visual chaos.

Your brain is constantly working overtime trying to make sense of the space around you. That’s why some rooms feel calming… while others make you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or mentally exhausted.

Good interior design isn’t just about making a room look pretty.
It’s about creating environments that support how we think, feel, and function.

The science of design matters. 🧠✨

Putting together a mood board is more than finding pictures online.

It’s:
▪️ Picking the colour pallet
▪️Ordering samples
▪️Noticing they don’t work together
▪️ Re-ordering Samples
▪️ Changing the design for the 5th time
▪️ Seeing the undertones

It all comes together in the end.
That’s why it’s so important not to blindly trust in online images.
They look different in person.
They feel different.
The lighting matters.

Designers lose sleep at night when something is “off”.

If you think you missed the mark in your design, enter “Colour” and I’ll send you a free pdf of the 5 Biggest Colour Mistakes People Make.

Do it right the first time.

White paint is NOT just white paint. 👀

One of the biggest mistakes people make when choosing white paint is ignoring UNDERTONES.

That “clean white” you picked online?
It can suddenly turn:
• blue ❄️
• yellow ☀️
• pink 🌸
• green 🌿
depending on your lighting, flooring, countertops, exposure, and surrounding finishes.

This is exactly why a white that looks perfect in one home can look completely wrong in another.

Undertones are the difference between:
✨ crisp and fresh
vs.
😵 dingy, cold, sterile, or muddy

And once the whole house is painted… it’s an expensive mistake.

I put together a FREE PDF covering the biggest colour mistakes people make in their homes (and how to avoid them before you paint).

Grab it through the link in my bio. 🎨🤍

The Psychology of Colour Drenching

There’s a reason colour drenching feels so calming.

When walls, trim, ceilings, and doors are painted in the same tone, the eye stops jumping between contrasting elements. The brain processes the room as one cohesive environment, reducing visual noise and cognitive load.

This isn’t a new trend, but it is certainly on-trend.

Spaces that feel softer, more immersive, intentional, and quietly luxurious.
Design isn’t just about aesthetics.
It’s about how a space makes you feel.

Would you try colour drenching in your home?
