finally owning up to it.

i’ve spent a lot of time wondering where my place is in the world, and along my journey, a few titles have popped up. none of them have ever really satisfied me, and for that very reason, i’ve decided to dump them all here.

i have been vague about my own work for a long while, and it’s taken even longer to realise where i belong, but in the midst of all of it, i’ve never stopped creating.

i think we’ve lost ourselves in all of these definitions and while positioning yourself is great, the work you create should be of the outmost priority.

honour the work, respect the work, love the work, commit to the work, be passionate about the work, give time to the work, focus on the work, build a healthy relationship with the work, and the rest will come later.

that’s what i’ve been doing for the past couple of years, practicing patience, slowly building, honing the skills, all of this to feel worthy of the work i’m serving.

the past week was particularly interesting because i finally became my own boss (congratulations to me y’all!!!), and in between the shoots i did for @crosswithswag, i found myself wearing so many caps in one day, that none of these titles mattered one bit. i submerged myself into the work without any labels and the outcome was beautiful (slide 3-5 teasers).

and after all that, i’ve realised i should have never waited for permission to define myself as anything, but if anyone’s wondering what i do for living, i’ve left it all bear, here.

For twenty one summers I’ve lived. Seeking understanding, seeking reason, seeking meaning, seeking love. All the things that have kept mankind alive, endlessly searching, when the true answers have been within this whole time, and with the depth and complexities of the self, no wonder we find ourselves lost, I for one certainly have. Trying and testing, haste has been my enemy.

Having learned the pleasures of the skin before even learning me.

Shame is an understatement, but it’s not too late. It’s not too late to forgive, it’s not too late to let go, and please, believe me, as cool as I remain, there’s moments where I’ve lost my self restraint, saying to the mirror “It must be what you’ve put me through!”

So I know, and you know too, there’s nothing good that’s come from letting hate and pain consume you.

These things in my carousel cannot be bought, the pressures from my mind is the only cost, take care of your temple, let grace be your guide, for what will give you peace and prosperity, is right inside. by @the.directorr
