My camera reel hasn't been capturing all the work I have been doing out in the garden recently. But I did manage to snap a shot of the beautiful work of a spider.

The rest of my photos seem to be photos of plants I grew from seed but didn't label - Google Lens (sometimes) to the rescue. A good lesson to never rely on my memory, and instead LABEL LABEL LABEL.

The rain is out today so I intend to have an indoor day. Have to get some order into what was my studio for sewing/patternmaking but somehow got taken over by my gardening hobby - my daughter has a couple of end of year school events soon and has requested I put my fashion degree to use and create her some outfits.

A productive day in the garden. 🌱

Today was all about getting ready for the dahlias.

I’ve been recycling timber posts to create a support system for my shade cloth, which will eventually double as the framework for dahlia support using twine.

And because apparently I can’t throw anything away that might be useful… 😂 I’ve turned the milk bottles I used for seed starting into labels for my dahlias.

Labour Weekend is getting closer and there is still SO much to do before I can get these dahlias into the ground.

The garden is currently very much a work in progress — bits of timber, pavers, pots, tools and soil everywhere — but I’m slowly getting there.

Not perfect. Not finished. But progress. 🌿

Quite possibly my favourite roses - new additions to my garden

A recent delivery from NZ Bulbs. I look forward to giving these a go for the first time.

Strawberries hopefully tucked away safely from the birds, for now.

Some dahlia tubers I picked up from my parents garden during their move.

I recently helped my parents pack up their home and found this scrapbook page from my Nana that my Mum had kept. Pretty special. She passed when I was 11, but I have memories of her garden. by @the.garden.draft

A little bit of garden chaos, a little bit of garden rescue, and a few more dahlias… 🌱🌸

I have apparently developed a soft spot for plants on sale. I see them sitting there in the clearance section and immediately feel like they need rescuing. 😂

So these peonies came home with me. They’re now potted up and we’ll see if my “I can definitely keep these alive” confidence is justified. I am slowly accepting that I am not, in fact, the plant whisperer. 🤦‍♀️

Then there was the dahlia sale I’d been eyeing up nearby. I walked down to it, following the balloons and chalk drawings along the footpath, and naturally came home with three more dahlia tubers. Because apparently I haven't quite reached my limit yet. 😂

Meanwhile, several of my dahlias have woken up so they have been potted up and placed outside where they will hopefully handle the elements until I am ready to plant them.

Slowly, slowly, the garden is taking shape. 🌿

Rescued plants, a dahlia tuber sale and one slightly chaotic garden decision at a time.

Yesterday: fighting the birds.
Today: fighting the rain. 🌧️

My freshly sown wildflower seeds may or may not still be where I put them. 😂

But there is good news — my dahlia tubers have arrived! 🌱

Burlesca, Bronze Glory and some new additions ready to grow.

Gardening: one step forward, two steps sideways.

Another lesson in gardening: apparently planting seeds isn’t enough. You also have to defend them. 😂

After the birds dug up my bulbs last week, I’m taking no chances with my newly sown wildflower seeds. Let’s see if this contraption does the trick. 🌱 by @the.garden.draft

Today marks the beginning of documenting the progress — the good, the bad, the unexpected and everything in between.
