POSTS STORIES REELS

We visited Mainau, known as the flower island, at the end of June and it was incredible. So many different gardens to explore, with so much inspiration for design and planting along the way. I’d love to go back to see them now in dahlia season too!
So glad we watched @themontydon ‘s Rhineland Gardens earlier in the year and realised it was super close to where we were staying in Germany! by @the.glasgowgardener

Taking inspiration from @peteplants and his Sunday stroll, a stroll around the garden as it is today vs how it was in April 2020. We moved in to the house just before the pandemic hit, and quickly realised that both the house and garden were going to need a whole load more work than we had anticipated.
Aside from taking down 3 horridly high conifer trees that were risky in high wind, we’ve done it all ourselves.
The garden has been my solace through the birth of our second girl and maternity leave combined with multiple lock downs, the loss of my wee dad, a new job (partnership), an increase in hours of my non-clinical work, my baby starting school and an addition role within the work I already do.

This summer has not been easy in the garden, battling the weather and pests, and at times it has been hard not to be despondent. But, looking back at just how much we’ve done helps! We’ve transformed a garden that was hugely overgrown, full of dog 💩 from the previous owners, and down right dangerous in places due to things like broken and rotted fence posts broken sticking out from the ground, hidden holes in the ground and brambles etc. We now have a garden that is safe and fun for the kids, places to sit and entertain and most importantly, space for flowers and edibles.
Thank goodness for the garden!! by @the.glasgowgardener

Thinking ahead to the summer, by looking back at last! Last year was the year of the madame butterfly antirrhinums, cherry bronze and bronze and white varieties and despite succession sowing, they all seemed to pop at the same time, making a stunning bed to come back from holiday to. I loved everything about these so of course I’ll be trying to grow more!

‘Friendship, Memories and Keepsakes’

This is our entry for the friendship, memories and keepsakes category. I was clearing the sweet pea wall today, cutting it down and saving seeds after another summer of blooms, when my youngest daughter came running over to ask if she could cut some sweet peas for her room, from the few that were left on the plants, and so here is her offering. All summer, the kids have loved making little posies from flowers growing in the garden, for themselves, but even to gift others, including my eldest’s teacher at the end of term 🥰🥰
I know sometimes they think I’m mad loving being out in the garden so much, but then we can do things like sowing seeds together, then cutting them when ready; it is a lovely way of involving them, making memories, and experiencing the joy of growing. by @the.glasgowgardener

Little Saturday harvest! Bloomin’ love my garden!

I am in love with the vibrant colours of this bed! 🤩😍 The lime green of the Bells of Ireland acts as the perfect backdrop to the bright pops of colour of the phlox and zinnia in the bed. It was meant to be a cutting bed, but the joy it gives me in the garden means I’ve not cut a single one!

An appreciation post for the garden stalwarts, the rose! June is peak rose season in our garden, but it is also peak busy month in our family with eldest daughter’s birthday celebrations, end of summer term at school/clubs and the long list of associated shows/parties/gatherings as well as getting ready for holiday away from home. But the roses just bloom away, quietly providing masses of colour in the front garden in the rose bed where over half of the roses are, welcoming people to the garden. Elegant and understated! There was a new kid on the block this year, the rose Rachel whose blooms started off a beautiful deep pinky/red/coral colour and progressed over about a week to a stunning coral/orange colour. Absolutely smitten! Photos 1-5 are all Rachel in her various states. That said, the old faithfuls Boscobel, Emily Brontë, Desdemona and Queen of Sweden remain some of the most beautiful in the garden and have been beautiful as always. I will always want more roses in the garden!

My June garden that I will be thankful for (and longing for!) in January! 💐🪴

Thank you @4mcds_bloomingplot for the tag and @plot26a for starting the trend 👩🏻‍🌾

So much to say about this space. In the 5 years we’ve been here, we’ve made it a space for all of us and I love that the kids love being out in it as much as I do. The joy and the sense of peace it gives is unmatched! I still can’t get over the fact that we have ripe tomatoes in June. In Glasgow!!
My favourite thing to grow is flowers for cutting, but I love that this year we have lots of edibles too - strawberries, gooseberries, blueberries, redcurrants, apples, tomatoes, radish, beetroot, spring onions, carrots, peppers, garlic and hopefully some pumpkins 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

@poojie88 @tenementpottering @littleedinburghgarden @little_bit_of_me_ @missforster I would love to see all of your growing spaces!

Late spring flowers post, mostly featuring the ranunculus and anemones which have been absolutely stunning this year. I’ve asked for more ranunculus corms for my birthday next month for autumn planting 😂 Now the ranunculus are over, it feels very much like the garden is gathering energy, getting ready to burst in to colour! I expect this will be in about 3 weeks, right when we’re on holiday 😂😂

A brilliant afternoon at @vadundee to see the Garden Futures exhibition. What a fab place the V&A is! We all had a great time.

Over the next couple of days I’m going to be dealing with the tulips that are sadly now past their best, but they have been really stunning this year. 🌷💐 I’m already thinking about and planning how I want them to be next year! I would love to know other people’s recommendations for beautiful blooms from their own gardens - even better if they are long lasting!

Tulips looking stunning today.
I’m going to confess though, I think I prefer ‘Pink Star’ to ‘Belle Epoque’ 😬😬😂
