Repotting day for this beauty. I am STILL bringing tropicals in off of the porch. It's so beautiful out today, it hardly feels like October, but last year we had first frost on Oct 14th so I need to hurry up.

Are all of your plants back inside yet? Do you live somewhere warm enough to leave them out all year? I'd love to hear.

Another African Violet for my collection- I found this (and another) at Home Depot, and I didn't have either.
So pretty they had to come home.

Roots make me smile. These ones have biochar in the water, which keeps the water perfectly clear- I do not know how the roots will fare long term, but it is so beautiful to me right now. They have been in there like this for several weeks, and there has been healthy new root growth.

My hoya sunrise is blooming again on multiple peduncles, and I cannot get over this fresh, bright, clean scent. It somewhat reminds me of Davidoff 'cool water" with no perfumey heaviness, plus a hint of citrus (I am dating myself with that reference, I know).

Meet 'Artie'. Another trip to Boundary Country means another Madagascar Jewel is coming home with me. The lovely gentleman I bought this (and last year's) one from let me take a look at his beautiful home collection. Mama plant was very happy, as were several other gorgeous plants.

Low motivation day over here, I am too distracted by all of our new fish to do much else. Who knew fish watching was such a good time? I potted up a monstera cutting, though. Anyhow, this wayetti has been in my collection for maybe a year (?) under horrid grow lights I got off marketplace (which work about the same whether they're on or off)- so this hoya hasn't grown much, but I'm still smitten.

My little Philodendron Dean Mcdowell. This plant is thirsty enough that i keep it in a wicking set up. It will soon outgrow its 4" pot, though, so I need to decide which way to plant it next. I love these big, pillowy leaves.

Nearly one year of growing this Madagascar Jewel. I found her at a rummage store while camping last summer, and I had to bring her home. She tends to lose her lower leaves but seems to have doubled in size, with each new leaf ending up larger than the previous one.

It's been a while since I've posted on my grid here- hi! Here is another mini African Violet, newly in my collection. How have you all been? We've been occupied with being un-busy (my favourite) and had a lovely houseguest (@kat.jorgen) for a too-short visit. I've somehow added many new plants into the spaces vacated by plants I put out for the summer, so I am trying to condense and simplify my collection. But what AV lover could resist such a cute, tiny addition?

Anthurium 'Forgetii' - this one appears to have some sort of pest issue which I have yet to identify. No webbing, no thrips, no sticky leaves...but she has tiny pinpricks and slight discoloration that I do not see on my other anthuriums. In any case, she is a beautiful plant and I hope to be able to rectify the situation.
I keep her in my kitchen, with exposure to south/west light. Swipe to see my standard (cost-effective) self-watering set-up for 10 cm(4") pots.

I use cylindrical vases from the dollar store ($2 CDN), with acrylic yarn threaded through the drainage holes as a wick. It's important that the yarn is acrylic, as it won't rot when constantly wet. This has been my set-up for the African violets in my collection, and more recently I've been using it for my thirstier plants as well.
Uniform, affordable, easy to keep clean, easy to keep tabs on the water level- plus this gives me peace of mind for when we head out of town.

When you care for more than 300 plants, easy solutions like this become crucial. What's your favourite self-watering set up?
