45 lbs of honey coming right up! This is the most active productive colony. Right under this box is another full box of honey! We'll leave it to them because July usually presents with a dearth, and the bees can get cranky as a result. By the way, it's 100° outside! by @the.honey.tree

With today being the last of the warm sunny days for a while, I had to take advantage of a small window of time available to me before work today to do some beekeeping. Instead of going to the gym, I'll have to find time elsewhere to get my exercises in for the day. That's just the way it works when you have bees.

Three of the six colonies had more than 70-80% of nectar in their top box, so I added another box of frames to each for them to keep building wax and storing nectar.

Two of the others were about 50-60% there, so I'll probably add to them next week, and I'm hoping the weather will be warm by then! Next, I'll be checking for the nectar to be capped because that means it's honey time!

Here are some quick pictures of the freshly made white wax they are building on both foundation and foundation-less frames. It's beautiful to me because I have a lot of old frames with dark dirty used wax, and I'm glad these bees are strong enough to expend that kind of energy in making new wax! It takes 8 parts honey to make 1 part wax. by @the.honey.tree

How splits work! This was April 23rd. It turned out that all 3 hives were alive after winter, and on April 15, I split them into 6 to prevent swarming. My last post was after checking for queens 2 weeks later! by @the.honey.tree

A little update on the apiary... This is one of the first signs of health before actually checking inside. Looks like we might have at least one loss of a hive down on the end though. Will inspect hopefully the end of the week. by @the.honey.tree
