I attended my first Renegade Craft back in 2023 and my jaw needed picking up off the floor every 5 minutes. The artistry in the products & the booth designs were so incredibly intriguing. I dreamed about applying myself one day but with my 5 beaded pieces a month - I doubted my abilities to make inventory for a fair this size 🤷🏾‍♀️

Fast forward to 2026, I made one of my goals this year to apply to Renegade to at least learn the process, never dreaming I would get accepted as a first time applicant. When I got the email I literally teared up 🥹

And then the reality of being 9 months postpartum hit and I thought WTF did I just do to myself- I’d barely been beading (or sleeping) in my postpartum days and did not have enough inventory, my brain felt empty of creativity (let alone could I string together sensical sentences) how would I leave baby for an entire weekend? Surely I could defer my acceptance to another time - surely I could postpone - surely I could cancel?

The thing about feeling ready and then doing things is - I never feel ready. Being scared and doing it anyway was the lesson I had to relearn. Finding the answers to all my scary questions took time to fall into place but inevitably did: where would I stay - with my buddy - who could take care of the baby - her loving father - how would I do setup - by myself bc I’m a badass - how would I go to Chicago by myself after a traumatic experience - and in reality I had my college roommate tell me she’d literally hold my hand and help me setup and it all came together!

We setup in the wind and the rain, my neighbor @lowercasetoys helped keep my tent grounded and looked out for me the entire market 🥰, I met folks who have followed on Instagram and shopped with me for years🥹, I had a few people come back multiple times to buy another piece😭, and I met some really awesome fellow artists😊!

@renegadecraft you were a dream come true - a gift of learning to be with myself again, being scared and doing it anyway, and brought the loveliest folks to my tent! Thank you 🙏🏽 ☺️ by @the.lady.buck

Loons & Racoons 🦝

Can you tell what slide 2 is?! 🫣👀

Been beading up some classics and some new takes on older pieces all in preparation for the biggest market I’ve ever had the chance to be a part of!

This weekend I will be at Renegade Craft Chicago and I’m so excited, nervous, in disbelief that I’ll be an artist at the show vs an eager patron! It’s been my professional goal this year to apply to Renegade with the belief I may not get in but if I shot for the moon maybe I’d land among the stars and boy was I surprised and ecstatic to be accepted!

I’m taking everything I have and hoping it’s enough and I even made a few new swag clothing items. After the market I’ll be listing unsold pieces and making more of the favorites for an update in early June!

Newsletter folks will get a discount and early bird shopping code to the new goods - sign up on my profile to join before May 19th!

I’m coming for you Chicago! All these pieces will be available at the fair! by @the.lady.buck

I’m not capable of saying all the things but here goes…

Mother’s Day has always held a day full of contradictory emotions for me. The time before matrescence held a belief that maybe we would never make it here, and that would have to be okay because it just was the way things were. From holding favorite mowshi (Auntie) status with all my nieces and nephews, being an educator, and getting our Chukka pup - these were my outlets for my wish for children, that I thought might have to be enough.

Having had the highest of highs and lowest of lows over the past 5 years that incorporate finding out I was pregnant one Mother’s Day to losing another pregnancy on a subsequent one has made this day filled complex experiences I wished to bury but my body would not let me.

The last nine months have been filled with the biggest joys I’ve ever felt watching our little one grow. I’m trying to be in awe of what a human body can do and how it transforms so quickly for both Bebe and Mama but some days it’s hard to see the beauty in it and not feel the grief of what and who you once were regardless of the desire to be a mother. It is both beautiful and tough.

And I’m so lucky to have El as my partner in crime to cry on and speak all these thoughts to, to spill milk on, to laugh with, to figure out all the new baby things with, and it’s been tougher than racing and training dogs, climbing mountains, commercial fishing, and sitting through a full Indian meal with my family for both of us but at least we have each other.

Mother’s Day is tough, it is beautiful. I’ve watched loved ones bury their mothers, go no contact with their mothers, face never becoming mother’s, tackle being in year X of motherhood and continually figuring out their new normals with their kiddos, navigate terminal illness’ with their little ones, and everything in between - at the very least this day has taught me there is so much held on this day for so many and it’s a good day to just take it easy on yourself.

All I can say is I find women incredible and no matter who you are and how tough and/or great this day is for you - I’m sending you love! 💐

If only ✨

There is a true joy in packing orders to be sent to their hopefully forever homes, but when you run a small business everything that takes time has a cost and truthfully I prefer spending my time on the actual slow hand crafting of heirloom pieces, sooooooo I often wish I could speed up everything else 😁

The start of 2026 has been a doozy of a start. The idea of selling artist wares is fleeting while Minneapolis is under federal occupation to remove legal status’ for immigrants and criminalize peaceful protest (along with other areas of the US) which is actually deeply steeped and rooted in American History. Each generation has had to step up during different eras and say, this is not who we are as a nation and this is not how we do things.

While I had the best laid plans to have some fun facts about goals for 2026 and wins and reflections from 2025 I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to share some key values Lady Buck believes in and is.

1. I am the daughter of immigrants (and unless you are indigenous to the United States/North America your people are probably immigrants too)

2. No one is illegal and we do not abide dehumanizing language here

3. Learning and Unlearning are part of life’s journey we are all humans and thus not perfect - we are all going to eff up - it’s how we repair can tell a great deal more about a person then sticking to your guns (literally)

4. We support fellow artists here - community over competition

5. 🔥🧊 - iykyk ✊🏽

If you want to meet in person I will be at @statelinedistillery on Saturday as part of the @madisonmakersmarket winter Market - I’ll be sitting and beading and listening to my new favorite artist Bad Bunny (or 📕 Iron Flame 😁)

oh and number 6 fun fact- I’m always a super late adopter of good music - usually my friends have to make me a mixtape 💿 😁 by @the.lady.buck
