I’m sitting at home preparing for my first journey abroad since my darling 🌸Anniken🌸passed away - a trip planned long before you left us💔

Even writing those words feels strange.

Travelling has always been something I love. Something to look forward to. But this time, packing a suitcase and getting on a plane feels different.

Because this will be my first time leaving the country in a world without 🌸Anniken🌸 physically in it.

And yet, of all the places I could be going, perhaps this is the right one.

Two years ago, I came here to celebrate my 50th birthday with my husband, my brother and my sister-in-law.

Last Easter, in 2025, I returned with 🌸Anniken🌸

Just her and me. A girls’ trip.

And we had the best time❤️

Now I am going back again. Same place. Same hotel. The same little group I celebrated my 50th with.

But everything is different.

There is a part of me that is looking forward to returning somewhere I love.

And there is another part of me that cannot understand how I am supposed to get on a plane, arrive somewhere beautiful, laugh, have dinner, watch the sunset — and do all of it when I miss her so desperately.

Maybe this is what grief will be for me.

Not leaving her behind.

Not “moving on.”

But slowly learning how to take her with me.

And perhaps this is the right place for my first journey.

A place where I can still see us together. Where I have memories of her smile, our conversations, a matcha, our laughter, our girls’ trip.

I know there will be moments when it hurts unbearably.

And I hope there will also be moments when I can feel happy.

I am learning that both can exist at the same time.

So I am going.

And when I get there, I will look for her in all the places where we once were together.

Maybe in a song.
Maybe in the warmth of the sun.
Maybe in a memory that suddenly makes me laugh instead of cry.

I don’t know.

But I hope.

I hope she is somehow still travelling with me.

I hope she is watching over me now, as I watched over her for twenty years.

And I hope that somewhere, somehow, she knows how much her mum loves her.

Always.

I sent this to 🌸Anniken🌸 in March.

“Take up more space.
Say more of what you mean.
Laugh louder.
Be freer.
Trust yourself more.

You don’t have to live the way others expect you to.
You owe no one to be anything other than who you are.”

A couple of days later, she replied:

“Nawww beste mamma! Du er så reflektert ❤️ du er best ❤️”

“Best mum. You are so thoughtful. You are the best. ❤️”

I have read those words so many times since we lost her 💔

Tomorrow, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day ;🧡

I wish with every part of me that Anniken had been able to see herself the way we saw her.

Beautiful. Strong. Independent. Caring. Funny. Wise. Surrounded by friends. Deeply, deeply loved.

But I am learning, in the most painful way imaginable, that what we see on the outside does not always tell us what someone is carrying on the inside.

Love does not always silence the thoughts that tell someone they are too much, not enough, a burden, or somehow better off gone.

Those thoughts can lie.

🌸Anniken🌸 was never a burden.

She was a gift.

To me.
To her brothers.
To her friends.
To so many people.

So I want to share the words I once sent to my daughter:

Take up space.
Say what you mean.
Laugh louder.
Be freer.
Trust yourself.
Ask for help.

And please tell someone when staying feels impossible.

You do not have to become someone else to deserve your place in this world.

Tomorrow is also Anniken’s little brother’s birthday.

So September 10 will forever hold both life and loss for our family.

We will celebrate him.
We will miss her.
And we will love them both with everything we have.

September is Suicide prevention and awareness month and it’s our first September without our beautiful daughter 🌸Anniken🌸. She died by suicide on May 23rd 2026, only 20 years old.

We love her so much and a huge part of trying to find a way forward is for me to talk about 🌸Anniken🌸 to anyone that wants to listen.

Thank you all for sending lots of love to our family and for helping keeping 🌸Anniken’s🌸 name alive. She will never be forgotten and she will always be loved.

Please stay 💗🌸💗 taken in Oslo, Norway by @the.midlifeedit

The grief edits 🌸

Right now, I’m not trying to optimize my life or become a better version of myself. I’m trying to find small things that help me get through the day.

Because alongside the grief, there is also anxiety. Sometimes crushing anxiety that seems to take over my whole body. Some days I wake up with it. Other days it arrives out of nowhere.

So I keep experimenting with what helps me stay with myself when everything feels too much.
I get up early and go outside with the dogs.
I spend as much time outdoors as I can.
I’ve reclaimed the sauna and swimming as my happy place this week. Somewhere my body seems to find a little peace, even when my mind can’t.

I read. A lot.
I spend time with the people I love. Sometimes talking. Sometimes doing something together. Sometimes simply being close to them is enough.

I give myself small projects when I have the energy. Painting something pink. Clearing something out. Creating a little bit of order when everything else feels completely out of order.
And some days I deliberately have zero plans.

I’m experimenting with putting my phone away and staying off social media for whole days at a time. The outside world can become too loud when everything inside already feels overwhelming.
And then there are the rituals.
I light candles. I burn incense. I visit 🌸Anniken🌸’s place every day.
Small ceremonies that keep me connected to her and give some shape to days that can otherwise feel shapeless.
Not everything I’m doing is healthy.
I struggle to eat.
I smoke too many cigarettes.
I’m not sharing any of this as a recipe for grief. And I’m certainly not pretending I’ve figured anything out.
I haven’t.
I’m simply paying attention.

What gives me five minutes of peace?
What makes the next hour a little easier?
What helps when the anxiety takes over?
What does my body need today?
And what can wait?
I’m discovering that moments of peace and moments of unbearable grief can somehow exist in the same day.
Sometimes in the same moment.

Maybe that’s what my Midlife Edit looks like right now.
Less about becoming better.
More about learning how to live inside a life I never wanted or imagined.
One day at a time.

Today is our wedding anniversary❤️❤️❤️

When we stood here and promised each other forever, neither of us could have imagined the life ahead. We dreamed about building a family, raising our children, celebrating milestones, and growing old together.
Life gave us so much joy. And then it gave us the greatest heartbreak imaginable.

On May 23, we lost our beautiful daughter, 🌸Anniken🌸.

Since that day, we’ve learned that love doesn’t disappear when life falls apart. If anything, it becomes even more important.

You have been my safe place through the darkest days of my life. We’ve cried together. Sat in silence together. Held each other up when the other couldn’t stand.

There are no words for how grateful I am to be walking this impossible road with you.

Our marriage isn’t defined by the day this photo was taken. It’s defined by every day we continue choosing each other—especially the hardest ones.

Thank you for your strength, your kindness, your patience, and your unwavering love. I love you more deeply today than I ever thought possible.

Happy anniversary, my love❤️❤️❤️ taken in Oslo, Norway by @the.midlifeedit
