Seasonal and fresh ingredients. Maxwells Trading is such a great dining experience. It’s a shared plate situation which is my favorite, I feel like you get to try so much more food that way!
To start I had the last word cocktail, which had gin, herbal liqueur, sugar snap pea, maraschino and lime. I was nervous it was going to be too spirit forward but it was perfectly balanced and I really enjoyed it!
My husband and I ordered 4 dishes plus a dessert, it was a lot of food and would recommend staying between 3-4 dishes per two people for sure. We ordered the Brussels sprout Fett’unta which was crispy brussel sprouts on top of a slice of marbled rye and also topped with Stracciatella, the French onion dip, the stuffed pappardelle, and heritage pork katsu. We ended with their famous basque butter cake. My favorites were the brussel sprout dish and the butter cake!
I loved the atmosphere and the staff were all welcoming and wonderful! It was also such a nice touch that everyone leaves with a fresh cut flower from their garden! I will definitely be back!

The Vig’s burger has been on my list to try for a while. I was pumped to see they opened a location in the west loop recently! The weekend they opened, I popped over to finally try their burger. It is topped with American cheese, tomato, pickle and a horseradish dijonnaise.
I really enjoyed it! Cooked perfectly medium to medium rare, juicy and not over sauced. It still does not top my beloved Maillard burger from Maillard tavern but if I am craving a burger, I will definitely come back!

I’ve lived in the Fulton market neighborhood for over 12 years and all 12 years (and more) The Publican has been there. The Publican is truly the OG of Fulton market since it opened in October of 2008!
The food, the concept and the service are excellent! It is open communal seating with large beautiful wooden tables and chairs. Their local seasonal changing menu is delicious! Most recently, my husband and I went and ordered the Bouchot mussels, barbecued carrots and porchetta to share. The carrots are one of their more popular “signature” dishes and rightfully so, they are amazing! They are grilled and topped with a dill sauce and pecans, so good!
Other favorites on the menu are the chicken (served on a bed of crispy duck fat French fries with sausage) and their famous publican quality bread and pimento cheese dip.
It’s lasted through a lot of change and is still going strong for a good reason and if you haven’t been, you should go to The Publican!

French food is a favorite of mine. So while in Montrèal, I was on the quest for some duck confit. My husband stumbled upon Leméac while searching and was able to secure a reservation.
The restaurant is classic French inside and is lovely! We started with a Cesar salad with chicken and I of course ordered the duck confit while my husband ordered the steak poivre and a side of frites. To end we split the huge house speciality French toast for dessert. The duck confit was excellent! Tender, flavorful meat with a crisp skin! Not one bit of dryness was experienced! Loved every bite and will be comparing my future duck confit to it!
I would recommend Leméac if you find yourself in Montrèal looking for delicious French food!

National cheeseburger day!
My all time favorite from @maillardtavern that sadly is no longer open. This was their Maillard burger with bacon jam and frizzled onions, so good!
Still trying to find a replacement, any recommendations?!

Fore street was my favorite meal on this past trip I took that covered Montreal, and most of the upper east coast! Incredible is all I can describe this place as. From the moment you pull the door open, you are hit with the most intoxicating delicious scents that make you feel like you hit the jackpot of restaurants.
It is an open floor kitchen so no matter where you are sitting you can see all the action taking place to prepare your food.
My husband and I were unsure of what to order because it all sounded amazing but our waiter, Brandon helped us narrow it down so we could try a lot but also not leave having to be rolled out the door. We ended up with the heirloom tomato salad, wood grilled lamb sausage, wood oven roasted rope cultured bangs island mussels (🤤), perkin duck leg confit, fore street’s dry rubbed pork lion and we ended with the take away handcrafted chocolates made by their in house chocolatier (so fancy!). Yes, that seems like a lot but they were small-ish plates and everything was spaced out so nicely and just kept getting better. The stand out dish for me were the mussels though, dare I say these were the best mussels I’ve ever had?! I think so! They were so fresh, meaty and tender and the broth they were served in was a perfection of white wine and garlic flavors.
I would fly back to Portland just to come eat at Fore Street again, it was that amazing. It is my top recommendation for Portland Maine!

When searching for recommended restaurants in Portland Maine, Central Provisions was included on almost every list. Because of that, I needed to get a reservation! I was able to snag a Wednesday night dinner reservation for while we were in town.
I understand why everyone recommends this place. It is really good! It’s small plate style and has a small intimate feel inside. My husband and I were sat at the chefs counter and loved our view of all the action of the open kitchen.
I started with their house on tap sangria, which had cola mixed in. I loved it, it was balanced well and was such a refreshing drink. From there my husband and I ordered the oysters, the chopped salad, bone marrow toast, the special of the evening, which was a lamb sausage, lamb campanelle, the smoked carrots and for dessert their corn pudding brûlée. Stand outs for me were the smoked carrots that came with a whipped goat cheese, cinnamon and pistachios. Who would have thought all of those things together taste so wonderful?! I also loved the special lamb sausage that came with a roasted pepper sauce and the corn pudding brûlée which included plum and roasted white chocolate, so good!
If you find yourself in Portland Maine, I highly recommend grabbing a reservation for Central Provisions. It is worth every word of hype!

This was mine and my husband’s first time at Mott St. It has been on our list for awhile and I did try the burger when they had space in the Chicago Timeout but I am so happy we finally made it over to their Wicker Park location!
The staff here are lovely, super friendly and inviting. Our waitress was super sweet and helped us pick which dishes to order and how many. We ended up with 4 dishes and it was perfect, we left full but not uncomfortable.
We ordered the brussel sprouts, everything wings, Mott burger and stuffed cabbage. Everything was delicious!
The brussel sprouts were crispy and were tossed with lamb pancetta and topped with maple butter and peanuts. The everything wings sauce was so good, sweet with a tang of spice and were served with a tzatziki sauce. I wasn’t a huge fan of the combination of flavors the wing had dipped in the sauce but each separate were incredible. The burger comes with sweet potato shoestrings, a hoisin aioli and miso butter onions. So good! Loved this burger! And lastly the stuffed cabbage was a really nice surprise and I loved all the flavor combinations! It was stuffed with braised pork shoulder and served with a kimchi sauce and had a crispy sticky rice cake on top!
I’ll be back to try more and come back for the burger! Although make sure you get there before 7p because they stop serving the burger to tables at 7p (they said they still serve it at the bar after!).

Miru has been on my list to try for a while and I finally got around to going with two girlfriends for dinner. It was an all around excellent experience, everything we ordered was delicious. I was sold right from the start, because they have a cocktail that is gin infused with matcha called Lady Luck. It was balanced and so enjoyable.
My friends and I ordered dishes to share and ended up with the lobster spring rolls, the king crab crispy rice, the triple tuna maki roll, the duck Yakisoba and a salmon avocado roll. Everything was very flavorful and I felt the portions were just right. The duck Yakisoba was a must for me because it included duck confit, which I have determined is one of my favorite things. For dessert my friends got the mango coconut to share and I got the black sesame mochi. Again, so good!
I want to go back to try more (and get the Lady Luck cocktail again) plus sit on their beautiful patio with views of downtown and the lake.
