10 months back, when I instinctively decided to turn my unwinding session into a full-time pursuit, I didn’t exactly imagine I’d be sitting inside the pages of AD Magazine. Reinterpreting the age-old craft of Kashmiri papier-mâché in a contemporary form has been a journey of pushing creative boundaries. Honored to have showcased my work alongside some of the finest artisans at the Kaarigar Pavilion, AD Design Show 2024. Grateful for this milestone! @archdigestindia @jswcraftprize @komalinga @shreyabasu2.0

The Sculpt House, designed by @studio_rohitjain in Mumbai, approaches residential design as an act of sculpting rather than assembling. Conceived as a home where form becomes the primary architectural language, the project moves beyond conventional spatial planning to create an environment shaped by volume, light, shadow, and movement. Softly monumental surfaces, muted tones, and carefully choreographed sightlines give the residence a sense of being carved rather than constructed, resulting in interiors that feel both expressive and deeply inhabitable.

At the heart of the home is a series of inventive interventions that blur the boundaries between architecture, furniture, and everyday ritual. A custom sliding-folding partition allows the living spaces to expand and contract with changing needs, transforming privacy into a dynamic experience rather than a fixed condition. Elsewhere, a structural column is reimagined as a sculptural mandir, turning a functional element into a spiritual anchor that quietly commands attention. The dining area continues this exploration of form through a striking poured-glass table, while a rotatable basin introduces an unexpected layer of flexibility, serving both the powder room and adjacent living spaces through a concealed kinetic mechanism.

The material palette balances restraint with drama. Brushed metallic surfaces, stone textures, warm timber tones, and sculptural furnishings come together to create interiors that feel composed yet expressive. This language culminates in the foyer, where a carved relief of Lord Ganesha emerges against a metallic backdrop, establishing a contemplative threshold between the outside world and the home within. Throughout the residence, the designer demonstrates how thoughtful innovation and sculptural thinking can transform daily living into a richer spatial experience, creating a home that functions as both architecture and artwork. taken in Mumbai - मुंबई by @the.papier.studio

Leheriya, reinterpreted through material, form and contemporary design.
Tarang extends this traditional Rajasthani resist-dyeing technique into Paper Mache. The nature of undulating lines into a design language of texture, pattern and movement.
An intersection of Indian craft, materiality and contemporary interiors.

Kosha Shah is an architect turned paper mâché artist based in Mumbai. She began her independent practice in 2024, working with recycled paper to develop a contemporary design language rooted in Indian culture, craft, and landscape. Often reduced to a school-time DIY or souvenir medium, paper mâché holds an age-old legacy that her practice seeks to continue and expand.

Expected to bend , adapt, accomodate. But what happens to a domestic body asked to be flexible indefinitely?

Certain bodies did not live up to their assigned roles, simply because they could not bend any further.

As a repercussion of this inflexibility, their identity was broken down

And they became “Not suitable for work” by @the.papier.studio
