🇮🇹 Questa foto e' nata assolutamente per caso,ma è diventata una delle mie preferite dei miei vari viaggi in Islanda. Nata per caso perché avevamo preso una stradina laterale tra i campi per cercare di avvicinarci il più possibile a uno dei fiumi glaciali e riprenderlo dall'alto col drone al tramonto, ma complice il forte vento far tornare indietro si è rivelato più complicato del previsto e sono dovuto andare a recuperarlo in un campo abbastanza lontano dal punto di decollo 😅. Incuriositi dalla presenza della macchina a bordo strada, i cavalli si sono avvicinati spontaneamente, e ho potuto approfittarne per fermare questo momento.
Ho cercato una composizione con i tre soggetti in diagonale e il sole morente nell'inquadratura, ma la chicca secondo me è il terzo cavallo sulla destra.

🇬🇧 This photo happened completely by chance, but it became one of my favorites from my many trips to Iceland. It happened by chance because we had taken a small side road to get as close as possible to one of the glacial rivers and film it from above with the drone at sunset. But thanks to the strong wind, bringing the drone back turned out to be more complicated than expected, and I had to go retrieve it in a field quite far from the takeoff point 😅.
Curious about the car parked by the roadside, the horses spontaneously came closer, and I was able to take advantage of the moment to capture this scene. I tried to create a composition with the three subjects arranged diagonally and the dying sun within the frame, but the treat here is the third horse on the right.

🇮🇹 lo so, lo so, mi mancano le altre trenta 😂. Ho avuto purtroppo solo una mezza giornata al cospetto del maestoso Fuji-san, l'iconica vetta del Giappone e l'ho trascorsa cercando di fare del mio meglio, ma mi è bastata per capire perché Hokusai e altri artisti ne fossero così attratti. È di una perfezione estetica incredibile, una montagna dai versanti quasi simmetrici che con i suoi 3770 metri torreggia solitario sul paesaggio circostante praticamente pianeggiante, un soggetto che emana armonia e potenza allo stesso tempo. Un vero gigante.

🇬🇧 I know, I know, I’m still missing the other thirty shots 😂. Unfortunately, I only had half a day in the presence of the majestic Fuji-san, Japan’s iconic peak, and I spent it trying to do my very best. But even that was enough to understand why Hokusai and so many other artists were drawn to it. Its aesthetic perfection is simply incredible: a mountain with almost perfectly symmetrical slopes that, at 3,770 meters, rises in solitary grandeur above the surrounding flat landscape — a subject that radiates harmony and power at the same time. A true giant.

TAXI DRIVER

🇮🇹 I taxi giapponesi sono un soggetto "strano" da vedere in una galleria di foto di viaggio, ma che mi ha colpito molto. La stragrande maggioranza delle auto dei tassisti sono infatti delle Toyota Crown (un modello con look abbastanza anni '90) e le Toyota JPN, modello concepito dalla casa nipponica proprio per questo utilizzo. Il fatto che siano così riconoscibili permette di ambientare i taxi nelle vedute cittadine in maniera molto efficace secondo me. Qui ci sono foto scattate a Tokyo, Kyoto e Sapporo.

Che ne dite, la galleria funziona?

🇬🇧 Japanese taxis are a somewhat unusual subject to find in a travel photo gallery, but they really caught my attention. The vast majority of taxi drivers’ cars are either Toyota Crowns (a model with a very ’90s-looking design) or Toyota JPNs, a model specifically created by the Japanese automaker for taxi use. The fact that they’re so recognizable makes them blend into city scenes in a very effective way, in my opinion. These photos were taken in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Sapporo.

MUSK OXEN IN THE WILD

🇮🇹 Dai miei archivi dei viaggi del 2016 e del 2023, una raccolta di foto dei buoi muschiati nel loro ambiente naturale. E per rendersi conto di quanto sia inospitale basta guardare l'ultima foto, in cui mi si vede mentre tento di non congelare nella tormenta di neve (grazie all'amico @gambaccianifotografiainviaggio per la foto e per aver diviso la tortura).
I soggetti però sono favolosi (e anche il posto non è male, quando c'è un po' di sole 😬).

🇬🇧 From my 2016 and 2023 travel archives, a collection of photos of musk oxen in their natural habitat. And to get an idea of how inhospitable it is, just look at the last photo, where you can see me trying not to freeze in the snowstorm (thanks to my friend Giovanni Gambacciani for the photo and for sharing the ordeal).

The subjects, however, are magnificent (and the place isn’t bad either, when there’s a bit of sunshine 😬).

VIBES FROM CANARY ISLANDS

🇮🇹 Le Canarie sono famose per il mare, il clima perfetto per ospitare la vita umana 😬 e tutti gli sport che prevedano una vela in qualunque forma. Lo sono un po' meno per i paesaggi estremamente variabili e i vulcani, che le fanno assomigliare a un'Islanda mediterranea, con un meteo decisamente più ospitale.

🇬🇧 The Canary Islands are famous for their sea, the perfect climate for human life 😬, and all sports that involve sailing in any form. They are less famous for their extremely variable landscapes and volcanoes, which make them resemble a Mediterranean Iceland, with a decidedly more hospitable climate.

🇮🇹 un breve racconto per immagini di una delle albe più spettacolari cui io abbia mai assistito. Stanchezza, freddo ... tutto passa in secondo piano di fronte a uno spettacolo del genere, a dei momenti in cui il rumore del ghiaccio che sfrega contro la chiglia della barca è intervallato dai richiami delle aquile che volano intorno.

🇮🇹 Il mio secondo viaggio in Giappone è ormai finito e dopo il rientro si tirano le somme di un'esperienza fantastica, condivisa con bravi fotografi che sono nel frattempo diventati degli amici. Sono stati dei giorni intensi, trascorsi spesso al freddo, dormendo poco e guidando tanto, ma che hanno generato ricordi che resteranno con me a lungo.
E, naturalmente, le foto. La selezione sarà lunga (dopo la prima scrematura siamo a un migliaio di scatti) e ancor di più lo sarà l'editing, ma vorrei iniziare a condividerle dalla fine, ovvero da Tokyo. Non era prevista nel programma ma ho volutamente aggiunto qualche giorno extra prima del rientro in Italia per visitarla ... e che scoperta! Una città che per molti versi vive nel futuro, interessantissima e varia dal punto di vista fotografico, brulicante di umanità ma incredibilmente razionale nel suo caos.
Mi sa che per l'anno prossimo vale la pena inserirla nel programma di viaggio 😬.

🇬🇧 My second trip to Japan is now over, and after returning, I'm summing up a fantastic experience, shared with talented photographers who have since become friends. They were intense days, often spent in the cold, sleeping little, and driving a lot, but they created memories that will stay with me for a long time.
And, of course, the photos. The selection process will be long (after the initial screening, we're up to a thousand shots) and the editing will be even more so, but I'd like to start sharing them from the end, from Tokyo. It wasn't part of the itinerary, but I deliberately added a few extra days before returning to Italy to visit it... and what a discovery! A city that in many ways lives in the future, incredibly interesting and varied from a photographic perspective, teeming with humanity yet incredibly rational in its chaos.
I think it'll be worth including in my travel itinerary next year 😬.

🇮🇹 il ritratto in studio non è propriamente il mio genere d'elezione, ma ogni tanto mi piace avere il controllo della luce e dell'ambiente e concentrarmi solo sul risultato. Dopo quasi cinque anni metto finalmente a frutto gli insegnamenti del maestro @graziano_panfili, il set è illuminato interamente in luce artificiale (visto che lo studio si trova in un seminterrato la luce naturale è pochina). Ho cercato un look più dark e cinematografico per la maggior parte delle foto.

Un grazie particolare per la pazienza a @giulia.pomponi e a @marco_la_terra per la compagnia 😬.

🇬🇧 Studio portraiture isn’t exactly my genre of choice, but every now and then I enjoy having full control over the light and the environment, focusing solely on the final result. After almost five years, I’m finally putting into practice the teachings of my mentor Graziano Panfili. The set is lit entirely with artificial light (since the studio is located in a basement, natural light is quite limited). I tried to achieve a more cinematic and dark look on most of the pictures.
