The Last Dance…

If you told my middle school self I'd become a cross country runner, I would have found it unbelievable. And if you said I'd be successful, I'd think you were crazy. In middle school, I always said no when asked if I wanted to run cross country. The idea of running for fun every day seemed boring. However, that all changed one day. As Freshman year began, my mom, Mrs. Paulk, and my dad encouraged me to try cross country. I had only planned to play basketball, but now I was open to the idea as cross country would be good conditioning for basketball. With only four boys on the team, I would get a varsity letter. A few days later, it started; Evan, Brandon, and I joined the cross country team, completing a full team of seven varsity runners. While I had always been a decent runner, I never anticipated what would unfold next… 4 years later, I can't believe my high school cross country career is over. It feels like just yesterday this adventure began. From my freshman to senior year, I've had numerous memorable moments in cross country. I've achieved great success, including regional and semi-state qualifications, conference awards, and being part of winning teams. Cross country helped me grow and connect with incredible people. To my inspirations, Hutch, Joey, and my teammates, thank you for everything. I'm grateful to have run with you and gotten to know you all. Thanks to cross country, I've formed close bonds with amazing people. To all my coaches, thank you for unleashing my potential and shaping me into the finest runner and individual I can be. To my competitors, our course battles have created meaningful connections. I've formed friendships beyond my team. Thank you all for your support these past four years, it means everything to me. The cross country team has become my family and I couldn't ask for anything better. Every cross country memory, cherished for life. I went from clueless to a top conference runner with a 17:12 PR. This is one of the hardest goodbyes I'll ever make. Saying goodbye to something that has given me everything is extremely tough. Cross country means so much to me and has countless amazing aspects.
