A dad said that to me at a qualifier and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.Because that feeling? I know it. And the hard truth is, it usually comes down to not having a system behind the outreach.So let’s fix that.First things first; build a college list that actually fits your daughter. Academics first, always. Then look at fit on the court. Pull from all the divisions and start with at least 10-15 schools in each. Don’t sleep on D2 and D3. Some of the best opportunities live there.Then stay consistent with your outreach.If she’s in 9th or 10th grade; email coaches every 2-3 months with highlight video updates. You’re planting seeds right now.If she’s in 11th or 12th grade; every month. The window is smaller than you think and consistency is what separates the athletes coaches remember from the ones they forget.Coaches aren’t sitting around waiting to discover your kid. I’m a volleyball mom, raising two ballers and trying to figure out this whole recruiting process right along with them.Before this, I spent my career in web development and technical editing. Now, I work in digital marketing. No reply doesn’t always mean no interest.The coach may not need their position. They may already have their graduation class filled. They may be busy traveling, coaching camps, or sorting through hundreds of emails.But it also doesn’t mean your athlete should send one email and disappear.Recruiting isn’t one email. It’s a good video, the right schools, a clear email, and consistent follow-up.*One thing to do today: Open the last email you sent. If your highlight video is a few months old, update it before you follow up. Give coaches a reason to take another look.That’s exactly what we’re working through inside the Summer Prep Bundle. Can we tank the idea that D2 and D3 are the “settle” options? Because that lie is quietly costing families some of the BEST fits out there.Quick reality check (swipe for the full breakdown): about 6% of high school players go on to play in college, and only around 1% land at D1. Aiming D1-or-nothing means pointing your athlete at the smallest door in the whole building.D2 schools may offer both athletic and academic scholarships. D3 schools don’t offer athletic scholarships, but they can help with academic scholarships. NAIA and JUCO schools also have great opportunities for student-athletes.Save this for the next time someone makes you feel like D1 is the only finish line. by @the.volleyball.edit

Can I tell you something I wish someone had told us?Nobody sat us down and said, “Hey, recruiting starts way earlier than you think.”We honestly thought we had plenty of time.Then all of a sudden I was hearing about highlight videos, recruiting emails, NCAA eligibility, recruiting calendars, and I remember thinking, Wait, did we already drop the ball on this?If your kiddo is a freshman, I don’t want you feeling that way.You don’t have to have everything figured out right now.You just need to know what to work on first and what can wait.That’s really why I started sharing recruiting tips. Looking at these pictures totally makes me smile because they remind me how far we’ve come.There was a time (middle school) when we knew our daughter wanted to play in college, but we had absolutely no clue what recruiting even looked like. We second-guessed everything and spent way too much time Googling everything and trying to piece it all together.That’s the whole reason I created the Summer Prep Bundle.
