Since I have to be home anyway, I added a bit to the Elvis bathroom. I need a LOT more red in it so I’m trying to find some more places to add it. I have two mirrors I need to hang but I’m terrified of them falling (one of them already has once when it’s frame disintegrated 🫣)

Yes I special ordered a red toilet paper roll holder thing ♠️♥️♣️♦️

An angry mob of torches descend upon this metal miniature by @reaperminiatures !
This was my first attempt at both greyscale color palette and object source lighting (OSL).

A long overdue birthday commission for a @the1966, very happy with the piece, especially for my first attemot at OSL.

Today marks 5 years since I got my best bud. He’s somewhere between 9 and 10 if @pima_animal_care_center got his age right (I’m sure they did)
To me he’s never looked any different ever since his scars healed and his fur grew back. Bull, you’re my little man and the light in my darkest days. I love your loud purrs, your big face, round belly, and heart full of love for me. You are a complete mama’s boy and that’s great because you are my son 🐈 truly believe you were meant to be mine 🧡 by @the1966

Just finished ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’. I know The Hunger Games has become something of a millennial meme but I can never get over what Suzanne Collins is still able to create and embolden this series with. Unlike a certain children’s author wringing whatever money and transphobia she can out of her once beloved series, Collins grows with her readers. The last two books have felt as though they are for us, the adults who were the young people thinking we would save the world only to find it may be beyond saving. ‘Sunrise’ fills in so many gaps and adds so much extra color to the characters and story we know from the original trilogy. It took a little while for me to appreciate it as more than just “Wow Katniss and Haymitch sure are similar” and see it as a true prequel and not just more of the same. Haymitch’s tragedy is integral to Katniss’s rise and his pain is woven into the entire trilogy.
‘Sunrise’ has some of the more brutal killings I’ve read in these books, you can feel Collins’ frustration and anger that the real world that she brings her fictional dystopia into has only gotten worse since her original story. That we have climbed ever closer to our worst fears.
You can’t help but read America’s race toward fascism and the ongoing g*nocide in G*za in what started for the author as a fearful modern nod to ‘1984’ and has now feels just as painfully near on the horizon.
‘Sunrise’ follows the philosophy of David Hume, speaking on how just because something has always happened, we assume it will happen again. We become complacent because we cannot imagine a world where the pattern changes. Injustice is not guaranteed because it always has existed, it is guaranteed as long as we do not fight to prevent it. by @the1966

On this day in 1914, Richard Widmark was born. It’s hard to say what exactly made me choose Richard as my shoulder to cry on and my crutch to lean on this year. I know what prompted it, life as I knew it was yanked out from under me, and then the universe seemed to see fit that any tether I had left behind were snapped and broken as well. Something about his handsome face, blue eyes, high forehead (which was brought up constantly in his movies? Leave the man alone) and range of characters kept me coming back at a compulsive level. Richard began his film career at 33 with one of screens most twisted psychos and spent the rest of his career convincing people he wasn’t that. More than a character actor but never quite considered a leading man, when he appeared on ‘I Love Lucy’, Lucy exclaimed to Ricky how he had always been one of her favorites and how much she loved looking at him. She seems to be one of the few who get me.
Richard made a career in westerns and noir, barely ever leaving the US for a role and certainly never playing anything much earlier than the Civil War. He had a knack for playing intelligent, sarcastic, often cold blooded realists. He wasn’t afraid to be scared, unsure, or even downright pathetic, not common notes for a leading mad of the 40s and 50s. He somehow avoided the Blacklist, despite having some of the more obvious left wing political films oh his time. I’ve said it before but being a blonde, blue eyed, midwestern star of cowboy movies must have counted for something. In the 60s he was anti war, anti gun - he had been 4F during WW2 for being partially deaf and he lost his little brother after he became a POW. Richard and his wife were married out of college and until she died in the 1990s, their only daughter being the light of his life. He and his wife wrote together and lived in a beautiful house in Connecticut with several animals and plenty of books.
Thank you to anyone this past year who has patiently listened to me and even more to anyone who has actually let me make them watch him. I feel I’ve made a friend for life in Richard and while I hope I won’t need him as much next year, I know I’ll continue to enjoy him all the same. by @the1966

The fact that the Elvis album is so high up and I only started listening to it recently 😭 also I listened to so much FOB post break up that I guess I should be less surprised. But Apple putting that stupid current artists singing with Elvis track on here even though I never listened to it is criminal and mean. by @the1966

Watching the Elvis ‘68 Special (first of all, omg) and one thing I’ve noticed is, women are so real lol. This was his “comeback” at the ripe old age of 33 and most of the songs he’s singing in this are at least 10 years old. He’s shaking and rocking and doing the Elvis thing but better than ever and these girls are SCREAMING. Mod, cool, totally British obsessed young 60s women and then something happens and the switch flicks and suddenly they lose it. Women are just so much better at loving stuff and losing themselves in it.
There’s some cynical people online trying to say the audience was paid to react like that and first of all, you wouldn’t have to pay people, it’s amazing. Secondly, nah man, women don’t do that for free, these girls are LIVING. It’s like when record companies think they know who the biggest member of a boyband is going to be and then you put them in front of real girls and it’s someone completely different. We just KNOW. You can pay people to react and it’s never going to be as real as girls just suddenly not knowing what else to do but scream.
Someone take me to a pop show, I miss this 🖤❤️ by @the1966

My greatest creation so far. This light-up fireplace I got for my miniature was way too bright. I had gotten these little frames (like what would go on the front of a file cabinet) awhile ago to use for something but I wasn’t sure what. When I realized I had this washi tape, I was inspired. I had to carefully glue the ends of each little frame together at angles and then wrap them carefully in the tape. I’m so happy with how this turned out!
