If you came of age during the golden era of hip-hop, R&B, and grunge in the ’90s and early 2000s, you may remember Res (@the1res), born Shareese Renée Ballard. These days, a lot of Gen Z is getting to know her, too.

It’s a reversal she never counted on. When she first took songs from her 2001 debut, “How I Do,” on the road, audiences often had no idea what they were hearing. She was a Black woman making music that slid between R&B, rock, pop, hip-hop, electronic sounds, and psychedelia, at a time when the industry preferred its artists in clearly labeled lanes.

On Oct. 14, she will bring that momentum to Miami, celebrating her birthday with a Las Rosas show on her 25th-anniversary tour for “How I Do.” The night is presented by Brainville with DJs Kumi and Natalie Foucauld, and it serves as a satellite party for III Points, bringing one of alternative R&B’s most influential and underappreciated voices into the festival’s orbit.
