"Youth don't really get a stake or decision-making power"ㅤ@nolitathina, Principal for Cultural Transformations at the Club of Rome, said it plainly at the 5th @NALAFEM Summit. Young women are already contributing to Africa's economies and politics, yet people aged 15–29 hold less than 3% of parliamentary seats worldwide (ANFREL, 2025). The contribution and the decision-making power therefore seem to exist separately.ㅤBridging this gap takes deliberate work. The New Generational Contract, hosted by the Club of Rome and the @stgallensymposium — serves as a standing commitment between generations to govern together, sharing decision-making power. ㅤThe Nairobi hub's seat at NALAFEM is that commitment in practice with youth inside a continental conversation on power and capital, learning, engaging and transforming together. There’s a particular kind of learning that only happens when generations share a room. 💛 The 5th @nalafem Summit brought together African women who legislate, organise and build change in one space in Nairobi, placing young women at the heart of the conversation. Africa’s leadership is decades older than its population. The answer isn’t to wait for our turn as young people. It’s what @aya_chebbi Nalafem’s founder, calls intergenerational co-leadership: generations working alongside each other, each carrying something the other needs. The 50 Percent's Nairobi hub showed up! @notsunnier @yvesdesigns.ke @ster_lynn, and Cohort I alumni @krystinmuraimo9 and @missyunann moved through two days of it. We were also proud to see @nolitathina co-director of @the50percentglobal take the floor at the Academy Baraza. Debating whether women truly back women, she argued the harder side with precision, naming professional competition, pick-me politics and the systems that teach women to compete for one seat instead of building more. The conversation ended with one shared conclusion: women back women. The next generation of African women leaders won’t get there alone.
