Tomorrow would have been her last ”first day of school”- the start of her senior year. This is the 8th first day of school without her. I can’t believe I’ve made it through so many. 🥹

It’s been a very weepy couple of weeks for me. The senior year stuff hit me a lot harder than I expected. It’s crazy because I have anticipated all of this for a long time. I even told Scott a few months ago that I wanted to take a trip and be gone the whole year, just to avoid the sadness. There is so much fun involved with senior year- painting parking spots, senior pictures, backpack pictures, senior sunrise, sunset, homecoming, spring break, prom, senior bike ride, and of course graduation. Monday morning, as we were walking out of the teacher breakfast, there was a group of girls taking backpack pics in front of the school. Brought me to tears in an instant. Scott always reminds me that she is not missing out on anything. But I am. That’s where it’s so hard. It feels uncomfortable to admit this, but there is a weird jealousy that comes with all of this- I’m jealous for her. I’m jealous for me. I want to be doing all the senior things with her. I want to experience the things that other senior moms get to experience. But I don’t get to.

Through the years, we’ve stayed close with her friends, we’ve cheered at soccer, football, volleyball and lacrosse games, we’ve watched her classmates grow up, we’ve celebrated milestones with them. We’ve loved every second….all the while, wondering where she would have fit in. What would she look like? How tall would she be? What colleges would she be looking at? How would she have painted her parking spot? So many things that are sweet to think about…🥹

Seven years of calling heaven her home.

We have been blessed with the most amazing friends and this week we’ve gotten to spend time with some of them. The question that has come up in every single conversation- how has it been 7 years? How does grief feel after “so long?” For the first time, referring to 2019 seems like so long ago. So much life has happened since then. I look at pictures of us with Sable and see how we’ve aged in those seven years. Our kids are all adults now. Her best friends are all going on college visits and thinking about their senior year. We’ve made new friends and strengthened old friendships. The list goes on. Throughout those seven years, I prayed every single day for God to mend our broken hearts. I never realized just how much healing was taking place.❤️‍🩹 God is good.

I still get stopped on a regular basis by total strangers who tell me they remember hearing about Sable and they have been praying for our family. Just last week, a sweet lady stopped me and asked if she could give me a hug 😭 (if you ever see me out, PLEASE hug me!) Thank you, again, for your continued love, prayers, and hugs over the past seven years. Thank you for not forgetting her 💕 Thank you will never seem adequate, but we are truly so grateful. It’s been said that losing her left a “Sable shaped” hole in our hearts, but God would send people to fill that hole. He certainly has. We love you. Every time the doorbell rang this week with flowers, food, sweet treats and gifts, I’d say “people are so good.” We will never feel worthy, but we are so grateful for your love.

It is with shattered hearts that we share that our sweet Sable Paige took her first steps into Jesus’ arms tonight.
Our sweet baby girl was diagnosed with strep throat and influenza Tuesday morning that lead to cardiac arrest that afternoon. She was airlifted to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital but it was too late. Our hearts are completely broken.

For now we are trying to live out what we say believe, and stand on the hope of life and peace that we have in Jesus. Please, please, please pray for our family in this dark time. We can’t imagine our lives without our baby girl. by @the8gibsons

💓 Next Wednesday, the 21st~ we will be celebrating what should be our sweet girl’s EIGHTEENTH birthday 🎂 This will be the eighth birthday celebrating her life…without her here. One of our passions that started “Shine Like Sable” has been providing weekend food for the students in need in the Mason City school district, because feeding the hungry was important to Sable 💓Thanks to the many memorials that were given to Joshua’s Place in Sable’s honor, we were able to bring “Shine Packs” to Mason City Schools. These packs provide weekend food for approximately 600 students each month- grades K-12. In addition to partnering with Joshua’s Place, we partner with Comet Cupboard to take care of an additional 300 students. That’s 900 students who are impacted every month thanks to your generosity.

The response every year has been more than we could have ever asked for or imagined. We never thought we would do it again after the first year. If I’m being honest, each year I say “this will be our last.” It’s scary to put a fundraiser out there that might not do as well as the years before, but every year you show up. Every year we are surrounded be THE most generous people. So here we are again 💓

We are asking you to please donate $18 (or any amount ☺️) for Sable’s 18th birthday🎂 $18 would provide a “Shine Pack” to one child for a month. With the rising cost of groceries, the need for these packs and the cost of providing them continues to grow.

All of the money that is donated through October 31st, will be given to Joshua’s Place to supply our Shine Packs. We are so grateful for our monthly donors. And to those of you who have already given your $18….thank you!
