We made things constantly. We worked with photographers, writers, illustrators, stylists, artists, and each other. We learned by doing, by printing, by making mistakes, by trying again. And because it was a newspaper, we learned to make decisions quickly and trust our instincts.

Looking through this work now, it’s easy to see how much of what came later began there: the love of editorial craft, the obsession with image-making and the desire to give stories a visual life of their own.

Those were the shaping years. Thanks to everyone who made this happen. 🤍 by @the___ever

Back when Thrival Music + Innovation Festival was being shaped, this little gang of robots came to life.

Each one had a name, a job, a personality, a purpose — and, apparently, a very specific private life.

One cared about climate. One grew food. One watched over the city. One protected humans from evil robots. One kept the grid charged. One was programmed for empathy. One arrived with flowers when tensions got high.

Looking back at them this week, it feels so relevant.

They were about the things we hoped technology could help us protect: food, air, climate, education, peace, humanity, community. It was fun to humanize these robots back then, to give them values, flaws, friendships, jobs, and a sense of humor.

The question that feels relevant now:
How do we make technology feel human enough for people to care about it?

This was such a lovely project to revisit, rethink, and revamp. (@dan_law_pgh , remember?! ) Eight years later, the characters still feel playful, but the ideas behind them feel a lot less whimsical.

Our answer back then was apparently simple: give the robots a purpose, a personality, and very good names.

There’s always real thought behind the final image we present to a client. Inspiration is so important and it’s always the starting point.

The work lives between the client’s vision and ours. Exchanging references, looking at what’s already out there, and figuring out how to make an idea feel different, relevant and distinctly our own.

We look at images from everywhere: art, photography, archives, everyday objects. For this cover, that took us from Francisco Oller’s still lifes and his elevation of Puerto Rico’s tropical fruits, to LOEWE’s wonderfully unexpected interpretations of fruit, the contemporary still-life photography of Aleksandra Garbarczyk, market displays and produce stickers. We pull things apart, make connections and eventually build a visual world that belongs to the project.

Here’s a little of what we were looking at along the way for our latest cover concept for BOUND. by @the___ever

We’re so excited to finally share the Fall cover of BOUND.

For this cover, the prompt was simple: build a monument to the flavors of the island.

Our test shoot quickly became the final image. Tropical fruits stacked, balanced, and reimagined as a sculpture. A monument to color, memory, and the flavors that instantly bring us to Puerto Rico.

Monolito de sabor.
A Monument of Flavor.

The studio is becoming a place to make, think, experiment, and let ideas run wild.

There are still boxes to unpack and walls to fill, but the work has already begun. This week, we got our first piece of mail 💌

A studio in progress, and exactly where we want to be.

It’s Friday and we all need to decompress.

We used our custom typeface system to conceptualize a world around it. Originally inspired by children learning the alphabet through Play-Doh and tactile play, the letterforms were designed to feel soft and imperfect.

With the squishy craze everywhere, it felt like the right moment to bring it back. This time as an actual squishy.

Enjoy the weekend! by @the___ever

For this editorial feature, we designed two QR experiences: one in Spanish and one in English, leading readers to practical emergency-kit guides formatted for mobile.

The printed article introduces the subject through different situations, including travel, outdoor activity, children and pets. The digital extension turns that information into something readers can scan, save and return to when they need it.

It is a small intervention, but an important one: useful to the reader, valuable to the client and naturally integrated into the editorial design. by @the___ever

The Ever grew inside our home. Between raising three children and building a studio, the lines between family life and creative life became beautifully, and sometimes chaotically, intertwined.

The atelier will become a place to think, make, experiment, document, and gather.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far. I’m excited for what’s ahead and look forward to welcoming you soon.

This project never made it past the proposal stage.

Before Pittsburgh’s City Paper returned to print, The Ever began imagining what a new visual chapter for the publication might look like. Not because the paper needed saving, but because local journalism remains one of the most important cultural infrastructures a city can have.

The idea was simple: build a newspaper from the city itself.

Not a redesign imposed onto Pittsburgh, but one shaped by its bridges, steel, typography, geometry, neighborhoods, and civic character. A publication that felt inseparable from the place it serves.

These images are remnants of that exploration.

Photographed across the city’s yellow bridges, the concept used Pittsburgh as both subject and system. The publication became an object moving through the landscape that inspired it—part newspaper, part civic artifact.

In an age dominated by national headlines and algorithmic feeds, mid-sized cities need strong local journalism more than ever. They need institutions that document change, elevate voices, hold power accountable, and create a shared sense of place.

City Paper returned before this concept ever found its way into a proposal, which is exactly how these things go sometimes.

But design doesn’t always need to become reality to have value.

Sometimes it exists to explore possibilities. To ask questions. To imagine what could be.

What should local journalism look and feel like in the cities we call home?

For us, the answer begins with place.

Because cities are stories.

And stories deserve thoughtful design.
