THE A SHOW UPDATE: What is A-Spec Explainer 4.0 - the main change we’ve made here being, we’ve explicitly included the agender spectrum in to the definition. This post has two slides, both with a gradient background that blends purple, black, grey, white, and green — the shared colours of the A-Spec, Ace, Aro, and Agender flags. The text is large and bold in white for clarity, with each spectrum colour-coded to match its corresponding flag. ⸻ Slide 1 (Intro Slide): This slide introduces the post and explains the purpose behind it. It says: “This post breaks down what A-SPEC means – including asexual, aromantic, and agender spectrums – in simple terms. I’ve updated this post a few times as I’ve continued learning about my own identity, listening to others, and connecting with more A-SPEC folks. This version now includes the Agender spectrum. Agender and gender-diverse people are such a vital part of the A-SPEC experience. In a time when trans and non-binary people are under attack across the world, it’s more important than ever to show solidarity, inclusion, and visibility. Swipe for definitions ➡️” ⸻ Slide 2 (Definitions Slide): This slide gives short definitions for three spectrums under the A-Spec umbrella: ACE (Asexual) Spectrum • Asexual: No sexual attraction • Greysexual: Small degree of sexual attraction • Demisexual: Sexual attraction only after emotional bond ARO (Aromantic) Spectrum • Aromantic: No desire for romantic relationships • Greyromantic: Small degree of romantic attraction • Demiromantic: Romantic attraction only after emotional bond Agender Spectrum • Agender: Doesn’t identify with any gender • Greygender: Experiences gender to a small degree • Demigender: Partially identifies with a gender, often alongside a genderless feeling 🔍 Other terms include: • Allosexual/alloromantic – the opposite of A-Spec • Aroace – someone who is both aromantic and asexual • Amatonormativity – the assumption that everyone wants exclusive romantic relationships Note: Agender ≠ non-binary. The a show, first and foremost, is for and by the a-spec community, that is those who identify in the spectrums of as*xuality and aromanticism. We’re here to showcase our performance art and create a safe space for our community I’m not a-spec, can i come? Yes! Everyone is welcome, but so you know - this show is about us so be respectful, we love our allies! I don’t have anyone to go with :( that’s ok! We have a meeting point for solo people if you want to have company, or if you just want to come and enjoy alone thats also fine - no judgement, ever! How are you accommodating for people with access needs? We try where possible, to be in a wheelchair accessible venue with accessible toilets and level access, aswell as provisions for a quiet space and a relaxed environment. We never have strobes in our shows and we give trigger warnings to any trigging acts/content. We also offer limited pay what you can tickets for those on low incomes. We’re always open to feedback to improve! More spicy questions next slide... How do i ask someone about their as*xuality or aromantism ask them if they would be open to talking about it, but be respectly and don’t ask invasive or inappropriate questions. If they say no, then it’s a no babes. Next subject Will the whole show be about being a-spec? Not necessarily, if we talk about it or not the people who you see performing will be - we’re here to celebrate ourselves in all kinds of ways, directly or indirectly Are a-specs part of the queer community? Yes we are! We are the ‘a’ in the lgbtqia! It does not stand for ally! Can you be a-spec and gay, bi, lesbian, trans etc. Yes! You can be a-spec and anything else cos ur amazing Did something happen to you to make you this way? No, and if so, that’s none of your business babes Do you ever get h*rny? Running theme here - no ones experience is the same, some of us do, some of us don’t or inbetween. Also, none of your biz! So, have you ever had s*x? None of your businessssss ok xoxo What’s the one of the biggest challenges facing a-spec people right now? Conversion therapy! Being a-spec isn’t very well understood in the medical field, alot of doctors and therapists thinks it’s something that can be fixed - it can’t be, it’s who we are! Does being as*xual mean you don’t want to have s*x? No! As*xuality is a spectrum, some people might be demis*xual or greys*xual which means they only develop s*xual feelings after emotional bonds are formed. There are also many ways to have s*x which may work for us or some of us won’t have a libido at all Does being aromantic mean you don’t love anyone? No! Love is a weird ol’ thing - there are many ways to show love and affection, not just the usual ways or gift giving, having babies, living together, changing your relationship status or being monogamous - it’s all subjective! Love doesn’t always mean romance Should i never mention s*x to an as*xual? Never!! We will combust into flames!! Only joking. Of course, it’s always worth checking with anyone new if they are comfortable hearing about your s*x life - but most of the time we are s*x positive people and we love that for you! And us too! Asexual, aromantic and a-gender voices are often left out during Pride season – but not this time. After our sold-out london pride show last year, we’re back to give a-spec joy on pride weekend in Cardiff! The A-Show stands firmly with our trans, non-binary, and agender siblings, always and forever. 💜💚🏳️‍⚧️ The UK Supreme Court’s decision to define “woman” solely by biological sex is a direct attack on trans rights. This ruling was significantly funded by J.K. Rowling, who donated £70,000 to support the legal challenge through the group For Women Scotland .  Rowling has also recently dismissed the asexual community, mocking International Asexuality Day by referring to it as “Fake Oppression Day” and suggesting that asexuality doesn’t belong in the LGBTQ+ movement . TERFs are not welcome, at our show, in our community. Not now. Not ever. We’re also taking this moment to affirm that agender people are an integral part of the A-Spec community.
