Sweet Sophie has had just one application in the 59 days she's been waiting for a home. 💔

We can't help but wonder if it's because people see she's an older dog.

What they don't see is a gentle, loving girl who still has so much life, love and companionship to give.

All Sophie wants is a quiet home where she can be the only dog, curl up beside her favourite humans, and finally feel like she belongs.

Poor Sauron must have been terrified when he was thrown out of a moving car. 💔

Luckily, he had no injuries, so a kind local community stepped in to feed him after the cruel incident, helping him slowly regain his strength.

But heartbreak struck again when Sauron was hit by a car, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

When he arrived in our care, he was fighting for his life. He had a ruptured eye, a potentially fatal hernia, a collapsed lung, and a broken jaw.

Our veterinary teams worked tirelessly to save him. He underwent emergency treatment, had a chest drain fitted, surgery to remove the eye that couldn't be saved, his jaw was wired, and he was fed through a feeding tube while he recovered.

Through it all, Sauron never gave up, and after weeks of expert care and love from one of our incredible volunteer foster carers, he slowly began to heal.

We're happy to say that after 81 days of unbelievable strength and courage, he was finally adopted. This image shows a black cat with one eye and a small portion of its tongue visible. Breaking: A major new report concludes that the greyhound racing industry is incompatible with modern animal welfare standards💔

As we approach the 100th anniversary of greyhound racing this week, the devastating reality of this industry cannot be ignored. Between 2017 and 2025 alone, 4,399 greyhounds involved in licensed racing died or were put to sleep, and over 38,000 injuries were officially recorded.

As a nation of dog lovers, it's horrifying that we are still putting greyhounds’ lives at risk for entertainment. The report, 'The Case for an End to Greyhound Racing in the UK', published with @the_blue_cross, @dogstrust, and @hoperescuewales, proves that regulation alone cannot protect greyhounds any longer.

This week, I was delighted to host an exhibition in Parliament with Blue Cross on dog safety in our communities 🐕

Blue Cross’s rehoming centre in Marsh Barton plays a really important role in Exeter, supporting pets and owners with rehoming, advice, and welfare services.

This exhibition has been an opportunity for us to bring together MPs and experts to discuss responsible dog ownership, and how we can make our communities safer for people and dogs.

Blue Cross already does valuable work in this area, from education programmes and community outreach to working with local authorities and police forces - so I’m really pleased to be working with them on this.

I’m also looking forward to the Labour Government’s upcoming Dog Ownership Strategy, and seeing it help make our communities safer for both people and dogs

I joined Blue Cross in Parliament to host an exhibition on dog safety in our communities 🐕 🐾

I’m proud to be working with Blue Cross on this important issue. Their rehoming centre in Marsh Barton plays a vital role in Exeter, supporting pets and their owners through rehoming services, expert advice, and animal welfare support.

Blue Cross also works with police forces and local authorities, including Devon and Cornwall Police, to teach dog owners about canine behaviours and the laws surrounding dog ownership - and they help improve dog safety in the wider community with educational materials for schools, and training for postal workers.

With the Government’s upcoming Dog Ownership Strategy on the horizon, we have a real opportunity to improve outcomes for both people and dogs and build safer, more responsible communities.

Every cat is different - and that's exactly why we take the time to get to know them. 💙

When Pixie came into our care, it was clear she was terrified of vet visits. Fear made this sweet, shy girl lash out, nip and bite - not because she was "bad", but because she was scared.

With patience, understanding and the right support, our teams helped her feel more comfortable and gave her new family the advice they needed to help her thrive.

Our behaviour services team supports pets throughout their adoption journey because, no matter a cat's fears or needs, we believe there's a loving home out there for every cat.
