Tomorrow night! Join us at The Caterpillar Lab for a night of mothlighting to celebrate national moth week! The lab will be closed this weekend (July 24th & 25th) during our typical open hours as we prep for one of our largest outreach programs at @coastalmainebotanicalgardens next week - but you can still come see some moths (and caterpillars!) at our mothlighting event tomorrow night from 8:30pm-11pm! It’s looking like a warm night, so we can expect to see lots of incredible insects (even species as dazzling as this giant leopard moth) paying us a visit. Registration is FREE, sign up via the link in our bio! You can also join us this Saturday for MORE mothlighting! On July 25th, from 8:30-10:30pm, join us for a Moth Ball hosted by the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center @beec_vt in Brattleboro, VT! Sign up via the BEEC’s website for a night of mothlighting, caterpillar searching, and other moth-themed festivities - moth week only comes once a year! Happy moth week! Come celebrate with us at The Caterpillar Lab! This Friday night, 7/24, we’re hosting our second free mothlighting event at the lab: From 8:30pm-11pm we’ll have our powerful mothlights setup around the lab in order attract some of the vast insect biodiversity we can expect to see this time of year. If you’ve never been to a mothlight before, what better time than moth week? Last month we hosted our first in-house mothlighting event at the brand new lab space, and it was a big success - this video features just a few of the insects we saw that night! What a magical way to spend a summer night! A couple weeks ago @grownativemass was so thrilled to kick off the summer with an incredible moth sheeting, caterpillar search, and presentation from @the_caterpillar_lab , planned in partnership with and on the gorgeous grounds of @newenglandbg . This is the second event we’ve gotten to do with The Caterpillar Lab and New England Botanic Garden this year and we are so grateful for everyone sharing their knowledge and expertise! We talked native plants, dug into the extraordinary lives of caterpillars and moths and other nocturnal insects, and the wonder you can find in your own backyard after dark. Having giant glass luna moths and other insects as part of the @glassinflight exhibit made it feel like a fairytale. Do yourself a favor and come see some caterpillars this weekend! 🐛 Join us for our FREE open hours at The Caterpillar Lab in Dublin, NH on Friday and Saturday, from noon-5pm! In addition to open hours at the lab, on Saturday (7/4), you can also catch us and lots of caterpillars at the Brattleboro Farmers’ Market from 9am-2pm! On Sunday (7/5), join Lucy McKay of The Caterpillar Lab alongside the Monadnock Bird and Nature Club, for a guided caterpillar walk through some of our favorite habitats at the airport road in Swanzey, NH. This walk will focus on Lucy’s specialty: the micromoths! Leafmines, leafrolls, and mystery micro caterpillars galore!
