A few years ago, two of my images found their way and made it as the title cover image for two documentaries featured on Animal Planet, Living with Elephants and 4 Deadliest Snakes of India! Thanks to @sripadsridhar

The best part is, both the images (Elephant and Saw Scaled Viper) were shot in Coimbatore, my city where I grew up getting inspired by nature.

Have you ever seen a Tiger make a goofy, open-mouthed grimace? That’s the Flehmen response!

When animals curl their upper lips and bare their teeth, they aren't just making a funny face or grinning at you—they're utilizing a hidden superpower. This action traps scent molecules and forces them into the vomeronasal organ (Jacobson’s organ) located in the roof of their mouth. This is the same organ Snakes and other reptiles use to smell the air to know what's going on! Just that reptiles do it very often!

It allows them to "taste" chemical messages in the air. Through a single sniff, they instantly decode crucial data about nearby rivals, territory boundaries, and potential mates. It’s essentially smelling in high definition!
