Linocut print: self portrait

A time in my life before I learned how to slow down and become acquainted with myself.

These are a collection of digital collages I've been working on and hope to use as templates for linocut prints.

I've been thinking a lot about creative intuition in art, poetry, and writing and the source from which that comes from. I've been pondering more and more (as I tap into my own creative intuition) patterns, shapes, colors, and design and piecing together what all of that means to me as a form of creative expression and also creative freedom.

Over the past year, I've dabbled in painting, collage, poetry, and print making (very recently). I've discovered that depending on what season I am in, I align more with a particular medium of art or expression, which i find very apt and helaing to the ever changing flow of life.

I am truly giving myself permission to explode all create styles and mediums.

Lately, linocut printing has been something I feel really aligned with. The idea of really crafting and creating and carving something with my hands, connected with design, has been really therapeutic and aligned with this season of life: one of embracing change, self discovery, being bold, and vulnerability.

As I align more with my true self, I find it easier to tap into a well of creativity and authentice self-expression.

I feel the full energy of summer today: vibrant, colorful, playful, warm, engaging, connection and full of joyful movement.

I allow. I allow. I allow....all of it.

The full spectrum of grief:
when we give ourselves
permission to be broken,
to feel deeply,
and to let others
see our wounds.
In doing so,
we find the courage
to heal on our own terms,
unashamed and unapologetic.

Sunlight .
The hem of a collar.
Shards of grass.
It is all poetry.

(After a few weeks of not feeling the creative flow...today I finally created something and if feels like home.)

Some days
the rhythm is
pure creativity.
A melody of
Color and prose
and movement!

Other days,
the rhythm is
slow and still.
there is a stagnation
or a need for
nurturing.

While I dream
of creativity.
A bud coiled tightly
waiting to bloom.

Endless blooms.

I sleep.
I dance.
I twirl.
I laugh.
I cry
I paint.
I create
I FEEL.
I FEEL.
I FEEL.

A lifetime
of learning
of searching
but all roads
led me back
to myself.
And so
I finally sat down
and said hello.

Sure. Fine. Whatever....just letting go of what no longer serves me.

Sure. Fine. Whatever....just learning to feel my emotions without apology.

Sure. Fine. Whatever....just coming home to who I've always been.

Sure. Fine. Whatever....just allowing pain and joy to coexist.

Sure. Fine. Whatever....just undergoing a metamorphosis.

I exhaled
for what felt like
the first time in weeks
while a Lauryn Hill
record played
on repeat
in the next room.
An acoustic account
that felt real
and tangible
like an autumn
breeze from an open window.
How lovely
it feels to
find my breath
again.

If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper. -Thich Nhat Hanh

Before you became a cloud,
you were an ocean,
roiled and murmuring
like a mouth.
You were the shadows
of a cloud cross- ing
over a field of tulips.
You were the sky
without a hat.
Your heart puffed
and flowered
like sheets drying on a line.

Prayer.

I felt the need to
pray today
but could not
find the words
Instead, I held a
deep gratitude
for the majestic
clouds against the
deep blue sky
that moved me
in such a way
I felt I could weep
and here
a prayer
bloomed.

I think about that day often,
etched forever
in my memory,
How the afternoon sun
spilled through
the window
like pearls of gold
and the way
the cool water
flowed across my hands
so soothing and nurturing
that I paused
and this moment
became
eternity.

This poem and collage art were both inspired by a visualization I have done for years, and that brings me so much comfort in my mind, body, and soul.
