📍 Glenriding Dodd 🌅

‘Life isn’t about what you have, it’s about how many lives you’ve impacted’

Saturday up in the Lake District for a sunrise at Glenridding Dodd 🌅 this is a very good little spot in town and the amount of people up there told that story. First time for me and won’t be the last, I decided on the loop which included Sheffield Pike. 7 miles, fairly straight forward and very moderate. Route is on AllTrails and definitely one of the easy ones 🙌🏻

This weather has been so good and next week looks the same! Long may it continue through till next weekend 🙏🏻

📍BLENCATHRA ⛰️ 🌅 ☁️

We are all about the 3 P’s

Patience…

Purpose…

Persistence…

Now the last P sums up my experiences in the mountains the last few times I’ve visited the lakes! You can say it’s luck or you can believe it’s consistency… Either way those memories will never leave me and that’s what you aim for when climbing to reach a summit.

What another surreal experience at the summit of blencartha on Friday morning! 3 wainwrights ticked off, Sunrise, views, clouds, top company and connecting with like minded people 💚👊🏻 this southern softie @taralou_x asked to join me on a sunrise hike so I invited her to experience the Lake District on Friday. She’s never hiked before and in all fairness absolutely smashed considering I had her up at 4am 😂 well done T you’ve had an experience to last a lifetime & you’re welcome again anytime 🫶🏻 met this chap too @worrall_outdoors & his pals at the summit. Top blokes and I’m sure we will get out at some point together in the future. Nothing beats the great outdoors and all it gives you 💚

Off to take my mum out tonight for her birthday, a man’s first love is always his mother and believe me I love mine to pieces. She’s my everyday hero ❤️

What is the point of life if you don’t follow your dreams & do what makes you happy? 💚

I never knew there could be a life after football… but now I’m climbing mountains to see the world 🌍⛰️

Mount Toubkal 🇲🇦 — 4,167m. The highest mountain in North Africa! Hiking through the Atlas Mountains to reach the summit for sunrise was one of the best experiences of my life. 🌅

Another experience I’ll never forget. And what made this one even better was sharing it with a group of people I’d never met before, who turned out to be some of the friendliest, most genuine people you could ask to take on an adventure like this with. Different people, different backgrounds, all there for the same reason — to get ourselves to the top. 🤝🏻⛰️

Standing at 4,167 metres watching the sun come up over Morocco made every step worth it. 🌅🇲🇦

Football was my life for so many years and I genuinely never knew what would replace that feeling when it ended.

Now I know I’ve found it… 🌍⛰️

New places. New people. New challenges. New memories.

I’m feeling more alive than ever. 🫡

Keep chasing what makes you feel alive. ✈️ 🏔️

Happy 2nd Birthday to my beautiful little girl, Trinity 🎂❤️

How are you TWO already?! 🥹 It honestly feels like five minutes ago you came into my life, and now you’re running around, full of personality, making me laugh every single day.

Watching you grow into this cheeky, funny, loving little girl has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. You might only be two, but you’ve already got such a big personality and you certainly know exactly what you want 😂

I wish I could slow time down because these years are going far too quickly. For now, I’m just going to enjoy every cuddle, every laugh, every adventure and every little moment while you’re still my little girl.

Some people are really good at looking okay 💚

They still show up. They still laugh. They still answer “I’m fine.” They still take care of everyone else while quietly falling apart themselves.

Yesterday was suicide prevention day and September in suicide awareness month, truth be told I’ve not been good the last few weeks since losing Toby 💔 it’s been rough few months if I’m honest. But at some point we have to take control of our grief, emotions & feelings and understand that being stuck in your own head isn’t healthy.

This was the first my first visit to the peaks for a while and Win hill sunrise delivered. Mother nature has always looked down on me favourably and this time was no different.

Sometimes you really don’t have to travel far… 🌅⛰️

I’m guilty of always looking towards the Lakes or North Wales when I want a proper mountain fix, but mornings like this are a reminder not to overlook what’s closer to home.

Heather in full colour, Ladybower below, moody clouds overhead and then the sky just completely lit up. One of those mornings where you get to the top hoping for a little bit of colour and end up getting far more than you expected.

Sometimes adventure isn’t about how far you travel… it’s just about getting out there. 🥾🌄

To some a dog is a pet, for us he was our family 🐺💔

Absolutely heartbroken to lose my boy, trying to make sense of it but just can’t seem how. Toby was a bouncy, larger than life typical German Shepherd. He loved softly and protected fiercely.

He listened when no one else was around and never said no to spending time with you. He loved the great outdoors and we had so many more adventures to come. Sadly we had our last, but he stayed loyal till the end….

Happy 14th birthday to my not so little bestie, Evie @evieemaee_ 🥹🎂❤️

Another year older, another year of me wondering where the hell the time has gone. It genuinely feels like yesterday you were this tiny little girl, and now I’m watching you grow into the most incredible young woman.

Being your Dad is one of the greatest privileges of my life. You’re kindhearted, caring, funny, loving and completely yourself and I hope that’s something you never change for anybody. 🫶🏻

I’m unbelievably proud of the young woman you’re becoming, but more than anything, I’m proud of the person you already are.

No matter how old you get, where life takes you or how much you grow up, I’ll always be right there beside you supporting you, embarrassing you, winding you up and apparently still being your ‘Bro’ 😂🤝🏼

I’m definitely not wishing summer away… but winter in the mountains just hits different. ❄️🌅

A little throwback to a few months ago and one of those mornings that reminds me exactly why I love the colder months.

A ridiculously early start under a sky full of stars, heading up Blencathra and Bannerdale Crags in the dark before watching the whole landscape slowly come alive.

And then the sun arrived. 🌅

Snow underfoot, freezing temperatures, completely clear skies and that insane golden winter light spilling across the fells. Accompanied by this gentleman @anthonyfin78 who I met on the way up. Another reason I love the great outdoors, meeting likeminded people to enjoy Mother Nature’s show 🤩

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve absolutely loved the long summer evenings, hiking in a T-shirt and actually being able to feel my fingers… and I’m in no rush whatsoever to wish any of it away.

But looking back through these has definitely got me excited for what’s coming.

Those freezing 4am alarms.
Headtorch starts.
Crampons and frozen fingers.
Snow-covered summits.
And hopefully a few more sunrises like this. 🤌🏼❄️

Winter mountain season… I’ll see you soon. 🏔️

People ask why I wake up at 2am to climb mountains… this is why… 🌅⛰️

Sometimes the best mornings don’t start with perfect weather.

Walking up Helvellyn, the summit was wrapped in mist and it looked like another sunrise was going to disappear behind thick cloud. Then, almost out of nowhere, the sky exploded into shades of orange and gold, lighting up Ullswater below like molten glass.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I keep setting the alarm ridiculously early. Most mornings don’t look like this, but every now and then the mountains reward the people willing to take the chance.

Helvellyn never disappoints. 💚
