Roots, 2026
Art by Lei Lei
- This piece will be on display tonight at @pancakesandbooze !

Roots is a celebration of my Caribbean heritage and the cultural influences that have shaped my creativity. Inspired by Jamaica, reggae, and dancehall music, this piece incorporates elements of Jamaican culture through color, pattern, and nail art.
The nails are displayed on Shabba Ranks’s “Raw As Ever” CD, paying homage to the music that helped define an era of Jamaican dancehall and continues to influence Caribbean culture and expression. I wanted to bring together two forms of creative expression, music and nail art, to create a piece that feels both nostalgic and personal.
For me, Roots represents connection to culture, music, creativity, and the Caribbean roots that continue to inspire the way I create.
