CAPTAIN’S LOG — 283 NAUTICAL MILES

Three days underway. 283 nautical miles. 90 gallons of fuel. The miles pass beneath the hull, the compass holds the course, and the horizon keeps moving.

There’s an old idea I love: the compass came before the clock. Because it doesn’t really matter how long it takes to get there if you don’t know where you’re going.

Out here, the destination matters—but so does the course.

Fair seas, steady heading, and another few hundred miles written into the logbook.

Recent travels, quiet moments, and artwork created along the way. From Tokyo to Washington DC, Virginia to Georgetown, Stockholm to Dallas — every place left its own color, energy, and inspiration on the canvas. Grateful for the journey, the movement, and the stillness found in between.

Day 354

Dropped anchor in the grand old port of Savannah and couldn’t help but reckon on what this fine city might become if the streets were returned to the people instead of the machines.

This render I made in revit Imagines the squares quiet again, oak trees whispering over brick paths, rooftops alive with gardens, and not a plume of carbon drifting from motor wagons below.

Savannah is one of the oldest treasures in America, built for walking long before the age of engines.

Yet modern policy keeps the iron beasts rolling straight through her heart, choking the very charm and clean air that make her worth protecting.

A sailor’s eye can see it plain — the future of this harbor town lies not in more roads, but in greener roofs, shaded promenades, and citizens strolling square to square as she was first designed.

Sometimes the best course ahead is simply the old one… just without the smog from cars. Its time to change the building codes in America.

Captain’s Log — Day 579

The sea be calm this mornin’, blue as a king’s sapphire and stretchin’ to the edge of the world. We’ve kept our bow pointed north, ridin’ the trade winds and the good grace of Neptune himself. The vessel hums steady beneath me boots, like a loyal beast eager for the next horizon.

Three days more ‘til we make Pawleys Island if the winds stay true. After that, the course be set onward—Oriental, then Norfolk through the winding waters of the Chesapeake. By the time the cannons of July the Fourth thunder across the land, we aim to sight the foggy reaches of Cape Cod.

A sailor learns a thing or two wanderin’ the world’s oceans. I’ve sailed foreign harbors and strange kingdoms, yet there’s somethin’ about these American shores that still stirs the blood like a strong rum. A wild, stubborn land—full of fools and kings alike—but still a place where a man may chart his own course.

The sea don’t care for politics nor the squabblin’ of landfolk. Out here a man’s worth be measured by his compass, his courage, and the steadiness of his hand upon the helm.

So we sail on.

The best artists aren't just dreamers—they're often secret engineers.
Think about it: Leonardo da Vinci didn't just paint the Mona Lisa; he sketched flying machines, dissected anatomy like a biomechanist, and engineered bridges & war devices that were centuries ahead.
Samuel Morse mastered portraits before inventing the telegraph & Morse code.
Hedy Lamarr wasn't only a Hollywood icon—she co-invented frequency-hopping tech that's the backbone of Wi-Fi & GPS.
Even modern kinetic sculptors like Arthur Ganson build intricate machines that move like living poetry.
Why? Because true mastery comes from both wild creativity and ruthless problem-solving. Engineers train the brain to break impossible ideas into solvable parts, test relentlessly, and iterate until it's right. Artists take that same discipline and turn it into something that moves the soul.
The line between "art" and "engineering" is thinner than we think. Maybe the greatest works happen when you refuse to choose sides.
What do you think—does your inner engineer make you a better creator? Drop your thoughts below 👇

Under the cloak of night with my trusty Sony Alpha 7S, I chase the stars—hundreds of raw frames captured in the cold silence, then stitched into flowing time-lapses that make the universe dance. 🌌✨

As designers and artists, this process feels like pure alchemy: starting with absolute darkness—nothing—and willing something breathtaking into existence. It's that same haunting thrill Edgar Allan Poe must have felt, conjuring ravens and shadowy realms from the void of imagination.

'All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.'

Creating art from nothing... it's magic.

It's madness.
It's everything.
Everything is connected.

What's your favorite way to create something out of nothing? Drop it below. 👇

In the cool, misty mountain streams of Japan, fly fishing has a deep-rooted legacy known as Tenkara — a minimalist, elegant form of fly fishing practiced by villagers for centuries. Unlike Western fly fishing, which often relies on reels and elaborate gear, Tenkara uses a simple rod, fixed line, and hand-tied fly, embodying the Japanese values of simplicity, patience, and harmony with nature.

Historically, Tenkara was not a sport, but a livelihood. Mountain villagers in regions like Nagano and Gifu used it to catch trout — especially iwana and yamame — for food and trade. Their intimate understanding of the rivers and the life within them passed through generations, not in books, but through quiet observation and storytelling over fire-warmed sake.

Life in rural Japan moves at a slower pace. Community, respect for the seasons, and interdependence still define daily life. In the countryside, you’ll see families harvesting rice by hand, elders tending vegetable gardens, and neighbors exchanging gifts of homemade pickles or seasonal fruits. The values of "mottainai" (waste nothing) and "wa" (harmony) are not ideals — they’re lived.

Compared to the West, where independence and productivity often dominate, Japanese village life prioritizes balance, modesty, and deep connection — to land, family, and tradition. The fisherman here doesn’t fish for escape, but as a way of being — one motion at a time, in tune with the river’s quiet voice.

For me, Florida was swampy and slow. We fought the current like men dragging anchors through syrup. Every boat that passed us threw a wake and dint follow the navigation laws. Georgia has some of the worst I've ever seen.

I needed to do—something old and hard and ugly enough to mean something. I didn’t want comfort.

Anthony Bourdain said

"When you start thinking about what people like, you start thinking about what people expect.

Then you start pandering to people's expectations.

Then you start talking about yourself in the third person. Learned very early on not to think about that.

You go out there and do the best you can, and you do things that are interesting to you.

Hopefully, it will be interesting to other people. I don't want to be adequate.

I'd rather fail gloriously making something. by @the_medium_factory

As the yacht glided up the river, the golden light hit the moss-draped oaks just right, casting long shadows over weathered brick and iron balconies. I tied up at the historic waterfront, footsteps away from centuries of stories. Cobblestones clunked underfoot as I wandered, picturing Oglethorpe sketching out this city’s elegant grid in the 1700s—no cars, no noise, just the hush of history.

The city’s charm isn’t just in its squares and spires—it’s in the way it welcomes you slowly, like molasses. From the quiet reverence of Bonaventure Cemetery to the whispered legends of Sherman's famous "Christmas gift," Savannah speaks in ghosts, grit, and grace.

That night aboard the yacht, the air was thick with jasmine and stories. The past felt close. I swear you could hear it in the creak of the dock, the murmur of the tide.
