It’s so challenging being in this business. There are many beautiful creative moments, but for the most part it’s a long hard slog, never knowing when the next paycheck will come.

🏡 Lovely to be home after a few days away in London...

The light at this time of year is my favourite thing - even if Mr Puzzle hates it because it means winter is just around the corner.

I’m off to London tomorrow (Tuesday-Thursday), probably my last work trip of 2026!

I’ll have a big piece of our newest design ‘Up Hill Down Dale’ cork wallpaper with me so let me know if you fancy meeting up!

🍂 🎃 This week we sent out a few rolls of one of our original designs - our black and gold Passion Flower wallpaper.

Created from an original lino cut design by @alexissnellprintmaker and traditionally printed in England, this wallpaper has a wonderful texture and I love how the light catches the metallic gold.

Shown here in a Victorian staircase and a 1970’s downstairs loo, it’s such a versatile design.

And now for something completely different…

Sometimes an opportunity appears that you don’t feel brave enough to take on...

And that was almost the case with this design I created for the Iconic Fatigue project.

Iconic Fatigue is a series of beds, each upholstered in a textile which tells the story of a person with an energy limiting illness.

You are invited to lie in the bed, put on headphones, and listen to each individual talk about their experience of living with chronic fatigue.

The project was conceived by Ellie Harrison of @politerebellion_ , with support from Arts Council England, and the University of Leeds.

My design was created to reflect the experience of photographer Lizzie Coombes.

The textile explores the contrasts between the very flat life she lived during the worst phases of her illness, and the colourful three dimensional world she is now able to inhabit most of the time.

As Lizzie is a photographer I incorporated her work into the design, creating a diary of her life through the ups and downs of her illness.

The pictures begin with the claustrophobic photos Lizzie took whilst her health was at its worst, giving way to her later instagram pictures which show her life becoming more free and colourful as her health improves.

In the design the framing of the photos also reflects the state of Lizzie’s health.

Grubby tile grout surrounds the images of her more difficult days - making these pictures appear flat and one dimensional, whilst three dimensional window frames surround the pictures of her happier days when she can begin to see and experience the outside world.

Six beds will soon be touring the UK to spread awareness of this often misunderstood illness. taken in Leeds, West Yorkshire by @the_monkeypuzzletree

😢 End of an era, as our wonderful local vintage shop @oakwood_vintage has closed.

Julie has worked so hard bringing her beautifully curated furniture and homewares to North Leeds, alongside some of our designs, for over 8 years.

I know how much work, and literal blood sweat and tears goes into running a business like this. And I’m a bit heartbroken that I won’t be able to pop in anymore for a chat and browse.

Royalty day!

Paying our artists their 20% royalty each quarter is the best part of my job.

It hasn’t quite worked as I initially hoped - we’re not at the stage yet where we’re paying enough to provide a passive income.

But in the current tricky times, especially for creatives our little contribution every few months is still appreciated.

Stock incoming!

This year we’ve supplied for a number of workspace and hospitality clients including PepsiCo and Cosy Club…And this order is destined for a very corporate office in Paris.

It’s wonderful to have beautiful boutique projects to work on…But it’s also good to have big orders to pay those bills!

Now back to the Brexit paperwork!

🍂 Our most autumnal artist, @kirsty_greenwoodillustration created the ethereal ‘Metamorphosis’ linen union fabric with us (look carefully and you’ll see she even has bat net curtains!)
