I spent ten years in Berlin and the last months in Bali, and I keep noticing how similar the two have started to feel.

On paper they couldn't be further apart. Berlin is techno, grey winters and clubs. Bali is rice fields, surf breaks and scooters stuck in traffic. They sit on opposite sides of the world, and both are genuinely incredible places to live. I feel lucky to have called both of them home.

Over the years though, I realized that both places attract people who arrive looking for a very specific version of them. In Berlin it's the all-black outfit, the Berghain queue and the idea of the "underground". In Bali it's the linen shirt, the smoothie bowl, the laptop by the pool and the sunset at the beach.

What I find interesting is what this does to the places themselves. A café in Canggu and a café in Neukölln can look almost identical now, with the same menu, the same fonts, the same ceramics and the same playlist. The more a place becomes a destination, the more it seems to follow the same global template, whatever the climate. by @the_nd_project

I got sober a while back, and I honestly didn't expect it to shift my whole life as much as it did.

The obvious things came first: Better sleep, more energy, a head that actually feels clear in the morning. I started seeing how much of my old routine was built around something I didn't even enjoy that much anymore. Once it was gone, there was suddenly a lot more room. More time, more focus, more of myself to put into the things I actually care about.

I'm not here to preach. Everyone's relationship with this is their own, and mine took a while to figure out. But the shift has been real, and it mostly happened without noise, and I can only recommend it.

For years living in Berlin (especially since COVID) I’ve noticed a huge rise in GHB use in nightlife and club spaces.

Everyone is free to make their own choices, and this isn’t about judging anyone. But personally, I’ve found it interesting (and sometimes a bit sad) to watch how dancefloor dynamics have changed as downers seem to have become much more common than uppers. People became more introverted and egoistic, causing a lot of problems and a zero tolerance policy in most of the clubs.

I’m curious about your experience with this. Have you noticed a shift? Has it changed the way people interact, dance, connect, or experience nightlife in general?
