That’s exactly why I created this page — and The Ops Manual. As a former professional boxer, I had more sponsors than I knew what to do with. I’ve learned a lot about acquiring sponsorship and selling tickets and I find it absolutely criminal that there is no guidance out there, so I want to share that knowledge and help other athletes do the same. If you’re an athlete looking to build your career beyond competition, you’re in the right place. This is about sponsorship and ticket sales . #boxing #sponsor #athlete #mma #ticketsale by @the_ops_manual
THE OPS MANUAL . A practical playbook for athletes looking to acquire and maintain sponsorship and generate ticket sales . !!!Coming soon!!! . As a former professional boxer, I had more sponsors than I knew what to do with. . I’ve finally taken the time to map out the exact process I used to achieve this. . During my time as a professional athlete, I acquired thousands in monthly cash sponsorship and was regularly asked by fighters and managers how I was able to do so. . Since then, I’ve gone on to build a successful career in Account Management, which has helped me refine and develop the details of this process to the point where I’m now happy to share it in what i will be calling “The Ops Manual.” . 10 years in the making . The Sponsorship & Ticket Sales Ops Manual . Launching soon. . If you are a fighter/ manager or know fighters/ managers that would benefit from support in acquiring sponsorship or building tickets, please feel free to share this with them and give me a message . 🥊🦾🥊🤼 . #boxing #support #sportsmanagement #athlete #mma by @the_ops_manual
🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊 Sales & business development skills For 🎫 sales & sponsorships 🤝 . Why should fighters learn sales and business development? . Because being a good fighter is only one part of building a sustainable career in combat sports. . Sales and business development skills can help you identify sponsorship opportunities, build relationships with businesses, negotiate deals, generate ticket sales and create opportunities outside of the ring. . While you can absolutely learn these skills through trial and error . You don’t have to….. you can invest in one of the thousands of short professional sales courses available online, access free online training or even take a part-time job that involves sales and business development . In fact, a job linked to sales will get you paid to learn a professional skill that will directly benefit your career and life after fighting . Think about that for a minute . Get paid to develop skills that directly help you generate sponsorship, sell more tickets and build valuable business relationships . No matter where sports takes you….sales and business development are transferable skills that will always have value . Now tell me why that’s a skill not worth investing in? 🤷‍♂️ . #sales #business #athlete #boxing #mma by @the_ops_manual
Reputation matters… . and I do not mean your reputation to fight…. I mean your reputation to sell tickets . Like it or not, it AS important… if not MORE important than your ability to fight . Let’s break it down briefly…. Shows cost money to set up….. shows make money back by fighters selling tickets…. Simple . Unless you are signed to the specific promotion in question… they will absolutely always pick an average fighters that sells loads of tickets over a really good fighter that struggles to sell 10 . SO…. Unless you are living off of your ticket money, there is always the option to reinvest that money by purchasing your own tickets . Now, from a promotional perspective you have sold “more” tickets and can use these tactically to place potential sponsors in the right place with the right people . Imagine there is a company keen to get in front of another specific company and you can demonstrate value by placing them both on the same table or next to each other . Anyway…. Reputation as a ticket seller ✅ demonstrates value to potential sponsors ✅ Costs your £0 ✅ . #boxing #mma #sportsmanagement #podcast #Theopsmanual by @the_ops_manual
Help me understand WHY some athletes are unable to acquire sponsorship deals . As a former professional Athlete getting thousands in monthly sponsorship for small hall shows, I struggle to understand how an athlete of this calibre would have difficulty acquiring sponsorship . I would consider having the UFC brand attached to your name to be more than enough to attract the attention of potential sponsors . Social media is a powerful tool, and understandably so you will see many people highlight that if you do not have a large social media following why would a brand be attracted to you . BUT arguably (I didn’t even have IG when I turned pro) ONLY putting yourself out there on social media is the very least you should be doing . random “sponsorship opportunity” posts on social media….quite frankly is not good enough . No one is out there looking online for ways to give their money away . When was the last time you searched up a company brand from an athletes kit? (Probably never, although you SHOULD BE for sponsorship market research) . So why would you assume that companies are doing it for ROI and audience is all they want? . You know who is getting sponsorship? The athletes getting out there meeting the people and shaking the hands . To conclude… Help me underunderstand why some athletes do not get the sponsorship they need? . My opinion: - It is not a lack of opportunity - It’s a lack of guidance and/ or effort . #ufc #mma #mightymouse #boxing #help by @the_ops_manual
Selling ticket when you have no friends or sponsors . Ultimately… go make friends . Join a club outside of combat sports . I don’t want to hear that you don’t have time . It’s just not enough of a priority to you right now . If you are struggling to sell tickets and you are happy with that, then this isn’t for you . However if you want to sell more tickets then you need to invest in that just like your training and sponsors . This isn’t the only way…. It’s just one of the ways . It is enough of a concern for you to work on…. Or it’s not… that is up to you . #boxing #combatsports #mma #rugby #sports by @the_ops_manual
This is me landing a sponsorship in one day . This is also me losing another sponsorship due to my own lack of communication . Still have that jumper . I don’t wear it . It’s to itchy . Go out and speak to business . If you need help, message me . #boxing #mma #sportsmanagement #athlete #deal by @the_ops_manual
Stay connected or lose support… simple 🤷‍♂️ . Staying in contact with your support is as important as staying in contact with your sponsors . They are spending their hard earned money to be there for you . Are you returning that by supporting their businesses and giving back? . Worth thinking about . Easier to retain support than find new support . #boxing #sportsmanagement #mma #podcast #athlete by @the_ops_manual
You cant even dream of a better sponsorship opportunity than this . Couldn’t make meeting businesses any easier for you . And I might even see you there . Share the video with any athlete you know, this will be the best thing you ever do for their career . Il be setting up some… what do i call it… seminars maybe is the right term or coaching of sorts.. working with fighters, promoters, managers etc to help build up the knowledge needed to secure sponsorship and increase ticket sales . I was full time boxing 🥊 with over £2.5k in monthly sponsorship and selling 100 tickets was considered a failure…. You just need to give the attention it needs . #boxing #mma #sportsmanagement #athlete #podcast by @the_ops_manual
The fight game is a business…. . It doesn’t care if you like that fact or not . Remember that time when that business owner knocked on your door and said “EXCUSE ME MATE, IM LOOKING TO GET RID OF SOME MONEY, WOULD YOU MIND IF I GAVE IT TO YOU IN RETURN FOR A PUNY LITTLE LOGO THAT ABSOLUTELY NO ONE WILL EVER RESEARCH” . Yeah I don’t recall that myself . You have to take the lead on creating these opportunities, your monthly post suggesting you have an “opportunity” for a business is just not good enough and if that is all you are doing then it is damn well lazy and not deserving of sponsorship 🤷‍♂️ . The same goes for emails . Yes ABSOLUTELY incorporating these into your routine is vital, however if this is the peak of your efforts 🤷‍♀️ then do you really think you deserve sponsorship? . When you consider there are athletes out there almost every day working hard and SHOWING businesses how much they care by getting out there, meeting the people, shaking the hands and doing the thing . Any way: . MONDAY: Research TUESDAY: Remote outreach WEDNESDAY: F2F outreach THURSDAY: Follow ups FRIDAY: Track and Review . Something like that . #boxing #mma #athlete #sports #sportsmanagement by @the_ops_manual
Do you keep a list of every person that purchased a ticket to every fight? . If not…. Why not? . These are THE people… YOUR people . ESPECIALLY if you are struggling with tickets, this is critical (and quite frankly…. the basics) . If you are selling 100 tickets a fight and 50% are new people each time…. You now have 50 new potential attendees every time you fight . Data is key to efficiency . Do less better 🤷‍♂️ . #data #sales #worksmart #efficient #boxing by @the_ops_manual
Ticket deals . What does it cost to compete as a professional boxer and what does this look like in tickets . 100 standard tickets was always the basic expectation, but I have heard it can be even higher now 🤷‍♂️ . These deals are always subject to Ts&Cs but the basics are the same…. Shows cost money to run, money comes from tickets and sponsorship . So unless you are straight into a purse, I’d say ticket sales and sponsorship are a fairly important aspects of the game . What expectations are you given and do you think it’s fair? . #boxing #sportsmanagement #athlete #tickets by @the_ops_manual
