Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to create the ‘perfect’ play setup. But the truth is, open-ended play doesn’t have to be complicated.

A handful of simple resources, a little imagination and time to explore are often all children need. In fact, when there are fewer materials, children are invited to think more creatively, solve problems and use objects in ways we might never have imagined.

The magic isn’t in having more it’s in giving children the freedom to wonder, create and lead their own play.

Simple can be meaningful. Less can be more. And the best play often comes from the simplest invitations. 🤍

This is hands down one of my favourite science experiments to do with my kids, and we come back to it again and again—the Lemon Eruption Experiment! 🍋🌋

It’s incredibly simple to set up, uses ingredients you probably already have at home, and creates endless opportunities to explore science through play. From chemical reactions to prediction, observation, and experimentation, there’s so much learning packed into one fun activity.

There’s something so satisfying about watching imagination come to life. 🚗💨

Today we used our @connetix_tiles tiles to build a race track. What started as a simple idea quickly turned into a creative engineering challenge!

Not only was it lots of fun, but it also encouraged problem-solving, teamwork and plenty of trial and error as we figured out how to make the track even better.

Who knew magnetic tiles could become the ultimate race day setup? 🏁

Parents... why is it that kids can own a mountain of toys but still announce they’re bored? 😂

Sometimes all they really need is a little invitation to get creative.

Watching them dive into painting, sticking, cutting and proudly showing off their latest masterpiece is a good reminder that the simple things are often the biggest hit. (Even if you do find the occasional googly eye in unexpected places. 🤭)

@my_creative_box have become one of our favourite ways to slow things down, spark a bit of imagination and keep little hands happily busy for a while.

Some of life’s most valuable lessons aren’t taught in classrooms—they’re found outdoors.

We didn’t catch any bugs, but our adventure was epic and we looked good trying 😂🐞🌿

On our walk, we talked about all the bugs we might find, splashed through puddles, chatted about the water, searched the trees, enjoyed a snack of apples, discovered mushrooms and even built a little bug house using leaves and sticks.

Although we didn’t find the bugs we were hoping for, we found something even better-time together. Exploring, asking questions, using our imaginations and learning through nature reminds us that the journey is often more important than the destination. 💚🍃

We could fizz all day! ✨🫧

Ice cream bowls, spoons and colourful fizz made the perfect invitation to play. There’s something so magical about scooping, stirring, pouring and watching the bubbly reaction come to life.

How stunning is this pastel coloured fizz from @the.saltwater.collective ? I could watch those bubbles all day! 💕 The soft colours and endless fizz make for such a fun, hands-on sensory experience.

Exploring bugs in their slimy habitat! 🐞🪱

We used @eco_art_and_craft slime to create a squishy invitation to explore our bugs. Paired with our @lets_play_lets_grow interactive box, it became a fun sensory experience that encouraged curiosity, imaginative play and hands-on discovery.

Add a few natural elements like leaves, sticks, bark, and stones and you have a complete bug habitat ready for little explorers to investigate! 🌿✨

Today is World Shark Awareness Day, and this is my entry into the @the.saltwater.collective Shark Challenge. 🦈

I wanted to create something a little different, so I chose a craft activity that encourages open-ended play.

Did you know?

Sharks play a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy. As apex predators, they help maintain the balance of marine ecosystems by regulating fish populations, helping coral reefs, seagrass meadows and countless marine species thrive.

This piece is my tribute to these incredible animals and a reminder that sharks deserve our respect, protection and a future in healthy oceans. 💙🌊
